Default I want a program for my off days.

You're reading the title and thinking "Jules has finally lost it, right?"

Well, hear me out. I go to the gym three times a week. The other days, sure I walk 45 mins and ride my bike to work, but basically I sit on my ass and stare at a screen in hypnotic unmoving bliss (aka surf the web). Which is where I will remain unless I get some kind of structure.

I think it's Craig Balle.. hmms.. Ballinty... Bally.. that TT guy who says you should workout every day. That would probably do a computer junky like me a world of good. But how much can I do on an off day that doesn't impair my recovery? I'm lifting pretty hard on those lifting days. Can I do a bodyweight circuit? Can I only do mobility work?

I'm just looking to get maybe 10-20 minutes of exercise a day in. Preferably strength & muscle stuff, since cardio bores me to tears

I agree. Something usually every day.

I usually do some running, but also
Calisthenics
Body Weight Workouts (chins, dips, push-ups, pull-ups, etc.)
Ab Work
Band Work (great for on the go)

But what are easy bodyweight exercises? Push ups? I can only do six military pushups from ground, and those are pretty heavy for me. Mahler's chin ups, dips etc. seem a bit heavy for me as well

Maybe I can do those lame ass women's health thingies, like the Evangeline Lily Lost workout!

I'm not always good about this, but I try to get in some time playing on my Wii -- either Wii Fit, or Wii sports, or Wii "My Fitness Coach". DDR is also a lot of fun. The fitness coach has been by main go-to lately.

If not that, I try to go to the pool with my grandkids for a while, or just go do some yard work.

You know Jules, look at what your body needs most. Do you need to do push ups? Do you need more posterior chain work to balance out your biking in a position that shortens your hip flexors? Do you need to stretch those? Activities should be based on need and what makes you feel good

I need mobility work, postural correction, streching, and a fair bit of them all. Damm, what you have to go and be all rational for?

Thanks!

You know, I felt really guilty just yesterday for bailing on my workout.

... it was also my off day.

I guess what we're saying here is that there is no "off day." There is only a different day.

Haha! First of the month. I get paid; I spend on Amazon! Almost every month!

So, you're going to spend four whole days a week rolling around on the floor with a foam roller only? (I obviously have no idea, I know.) I'm just trying to help you mix it up a bit that's all! Variety/spice/life...

Yeah, that's hardly the type of fun that makes you jump out of bed in the morning, is it? I'll throw in some bike rides and hikes, and some light bodyweight workouts.

I loooooove group classes like yoga, pilates, hiphop, even steps, but I have a real program with um... attendance. Every year I buy one of those 4-session trial cards for 25 euros, and every year I make it to exactly one class. That's a pretty damm expensive class

Its definitely a bit much. I've never done a group class in my life but I have one pilates DVD and I usually feel nice and stretched/relaxed/a bit worked after I've done it. Not that I have in months...

That I do
Calling all butt-kickers and cheerleaders!

For what its worth, if there were enough days in the week and I had unlimited money I'd do: running, lifting, horseback riding, kickboxing, pilates, tennis, hiking, some kind of team sport... and who knows what else might catch my interest at any point.

But I don't; I lift and use the cross trainer. And sometimes run. *sigh*

Going to agree with Galya on this one - taking care of stuff like mobility, flexibility etc would be great to do for a recovery day, especially since it constitutes actually recovering.

There's no way she got arms like that doing side planks and downward dog.

What's an off day?

Tabata and recovery work is what I do on my non weight days.
