Red face

Summer vacation is almost here; not too much a vacation for me because I decided to take football. And you guys know how that works. Endless hours under the burning sun, running around to save our asses from doing extra pushups.

Well, I'm starting to plan ahead. I'm (finally) joining a gym during the three-week period prior to the football summer session. For my size, I'm surprised I'm not getting my ass trampoled, at least not until we get our gear.

I'm 150 pounds (YES!) and gaining. I want to get the most out of the gym in those three weeks. My goals are to at least get a 4.8 40m and gain maybe about 5 pounds. Given that I've never worked out my legs with weights, for now I'm leaning towards squatting, deadlifts, olympics lifts, and plyos. Would this be good to do for three whole weeks? Would I benefit better if I didn't concentrate on my legs, and say, do a total body routine three or four days a week? How does working with weights compare with doing sprints? Would I benefit better if I concentrated solely on running, no weights, just running? Am I taking the right approach to this?

Any help is appreciated.

Why are you limiting yourself to just 3 weeks of weight training? If you really want to see some size gains, you have to consistently workout for a long period of time.

Your best bet is keep with the gym don't expect to see too much in these 3 weeks and train so next summer you will be in tip top shape. 3 weeks is not very long. If you gain some muscle great but if you have high expectaitions and don't see any gains then you might become discouraged and stop.

When I was writing the thread I knew this was going to happen lol. We lift and run when we're in school. After the school year officially ends, there's a three week gap between the end of school and the beginning of summer school. We start football when summer school starts, so I want to get ahead of the game and workout during our vacation time. Sorry for the confusion.

So you will be lifting during school as well as during the summer? In that case your plan sounds good. Still, you should start now if you wanna see some serious gains. Check out some of the "Fitness FAQ" fourm and look at the thread "workout routines". Pick a routine and stick with it.
