He highlights a gym in Albany where they have things like (**gasp**) big tires and stones:

When we were in in warmer climate their was two gyms. One of which was air conditioned had an orange julias, machines as far as the eyes could see. Spotless...beautiful.

The other was in a warehouse with nothing but rusty free-weights. Big ugly homeade squatracks, a mix of lbs\kg plates, 90-130 degrees depending on the time of day. The kind of place where you're somewhat thankfull for the barrage of shots and pills that you get.

No one could understand why I chose the latter.

That sounds like an awesome place! Much more inspiring than a standard gym. As Lou says "This is a trend I can get behind."

I wish there were more gyms like that around. Around here in CA Kennedy fitness rules. More sauna's, steam rooms, hot tubs, and most guests (and frat boys) are happy...NOT THIS ONE!!

That's pretty cool. In case you're interested, Phaedrus49er actually linked to the same story in O/T yesterday.

It makes you wonder how many of these gyms are actually out there. I bet if you were really interested, you could find these types of gyms in cities all over the country.

Nice!

Dyke Naughton is as real as it gets - I had the honor of training at his previous facility when home for the holidays back in the late 90's.

I trained with his powerlifting team - before your lift, you rang a doorbell that went off IN THE GYM - everyone stopped what they where doing and came over to support you - I hit my first triple bodyweight squat in his gym - did not do it in a meet till a year later...that's how fired up he got you!

It is great to see him get the exposure he well deserves.

Jerry
