The real solution is to get those fancy plates that JP had in his gym that make you look like you are lifting more than you really are. Since the 25's look the same size as the 45's you can deadlift more. Right? Perception is everything. Hmmmm? LOL

I've recently run into the grip strength issue (haven't been rock climbing like I should be) and the alternating grip has worked well. Yesterday I hurt my wrist and I need to RDL today, so I went out and bought straps for the first time - will see how that goes.

At the retreat, Chad Waterbury gave us an exotic exercise that will help with DL grip (among other things). Here is the illustrated description:

DL a bar that is lighter than your normal DL weight.

Walk appx 4 or 5 steps to a bench you have set up.

Place the bar down on the bench for a brief second, readjust your grip, and walk carefully backwards to your starting position. Lower bar back down.

On thing I should have stated, when doing a mixed grip, you want to switch your hands up each set to make sure everything grows balanced.
Hey NLife - I use the alternating grip for deadlifting but I never swap my grips. Feels really really awkward when I try swapping it around. Will doing it one way really cause an imbalance?

Anyone else here feel awkward when you try to swap these around?

I added the Waterbury Walk to my program yesterday. Kind of like a deadlift mixed with a farmer's walk. My grip was spent by the end...actually, my whole body was spent. I got some funny looks, but can't wait to do them again. I recommend them.

Chad seems like a nice guy, who really knows his stuff, but I can't believe he named an exercise after himself. Especially, walking with weights. All those exercises were done before he was even born.
