speed training question and answer
Q: My son is a college football player and he performs speed work 3 times per week. I was reading your book Maxcondition and you implied speed training should be performed 2 times per week. Do you still feel that way?
A: I am sorry I think you mis-read what I said. In MaxCondition I said, “My athletes generally perform speed training 2–3 times per week. Keep in mind, this is not written in stone as all training protocols are subject to change. I prefer to use max effort training one time per week while I promote sub-maximal training 1–2 times per week.” I think 3 times per week would probably be fine in most cases. This will vary depending on in-season or out of season. The athlete’s recovery ability and other supplementary exercises must be considered also.
thanks,
