I have a set of chains at my gym... I only have one client presently that I will even use them on, but I really like having them. My shoulders have been too screwed up to use them on my benchpress.

TG-i believe you attach them to the bar and let them rest on the floor. Then, as the lift goes up, more weight is progressively added to the bar as more of the chain is lifted off the floor. So, for benchpress lets say, the weight you have on the bottom of the rep is 250, but when you get to the top, you have the 250 + the weight of the chains you just lifted off the ground. Same thing for squats and any other lift you'd use them for.
Does that make any sense?

the idea is that since you can typically produce more power at the top of your lift than the bottom, you're not working to your fullest potential without chains or bands because you're limited by how much you can lift at the bottom.

You can get large chain at Marine Shops. They use it for anchors.
If you can find used chain, that's the best route, but make sure it has not seen salt water due to rust issues.

Wonder if my local gym would get upset if my buddy and I come in lugging 2 big marine chains. Come to think of it, there is a boat store right next door to my gym...

Chains are fun.
The chains in the pic Newlife posted are not very close to how they should look in regards to the article from the Westside guys. I will look tomorrow for a better pic.
