I had some short term goals in the gym that I was working on but I've had a really hard time lately with stuff going on in other areas of my life that I think may be interferring with my progress, for example:
* vehicle getting broken and stuff stolen like wife's purse (credit/bank/calling cards, etc), my workout bag (MP3 player, w/o log, etc) and bookbag (work papers and class stuff such like the final I was getting ready to give
* tried to reformat my hard drive to get some pesky files off; eventually took it in to save time and wound up losing ALL the data on a second HD that they weren't supposed to mess with
* house has been on the market for going on 18 mos now
* work has been incredibly busy for a while now

Anyway, I AM very thankful that it's nothing REALLY serious but I am wondering if this other crap is a why, when I go to the gym, my performance has fallen off. I often feel like I don't have the energy to have the workout I want. I'm sleeping fairly normally except for the nights when there's a West Coast playoff game on... and that's been pretty regular.

The other alternative is that I've been overtraining and that's why my performance has been falling off. I know that sounds like it would be hard to do if I was lacking sufficient physical or mental energy to get a good workout in... unless overtraining is relative to the individual's ability to recover in which case the stress may be impacting that aspect.

I'm pretty sure that stress is impacting my workouts momentarily and, thankfully, I'm going on vacation this Friday WOOOOHOOOO so I'm sure this will all sort itself out but I was interested in hearing your thoughts on how stress impacts working out. My workouts are my lifesaver for dealing with all the other crap but, right now, the crap seems to be winning out. I know that will change soon but I thought it was an interesting topic anyway.

Q,

Overtraining means training with volume and intensity which exceeds your ability to recovery. If that is caused by increasing volume/intensity or by reducing your ability to recover (by introducing stress), Mr. Overtraining cares not.
