My wife had me move our stationary bike from the basement gym to the family room so she can bike and watch "The Young and the Restless" . She goes hard enough that you could consider it cardio. I'm thinking of just pedaling the thing slowly, < 10 mph, while watching the Steelers kick the Cowboys' ass. Not fast enough to breath hard or work up a sweat, just burn a few hundred calories. Would doing this a few times per week be enough to lose maybe one pound a month or did I get all the real benefit dragging it up the stairs?

If you've read anything in Leigh's FLTS section, we're really big on the benefits of NEAT - non-exercise activity thermogenesis... So yes - moving instead of being planted on the couch, even if it's just slow pedaling, would have benefits. In fact (although I'm not doing it at the moment), I have a desk thingy that fits over my treadmill and I try to stroll around 2mph while web surfing and reading this forum, versus sitting on my butt.
1# per month? Depends on if you burn an extra 3500 kcals compared to not pedaling, but I would say it's worth it - let us know how it works for you!

Yes, if it puts her at a calorie deficit low enough to lose a pound a month.

It's for me.

I agree that you will get the benefit of burning a few extra calories. pedaling on the bike will be better than sitting on your ass.
However on the negative side, I don't think it will do much else for you besides burn a few extra calories. I don't think idly pedaling it will translate to any type of real fitness gain.
