I thought he didn't do any weight training during his cycling years because he needed to keep his BW down.

There is no way Lance would put on muscle doing KB swings. I have female clients considerably weaker than Lance doing one arm swings with 16kg for time as a part of their interval work.

Classic KB lifts are best suited for strength endurance, and are great for cyclists in providing posterior chain strength endurance work along with conditioning benefits.
