I am contemplating joining this club simply becuase it is never packed. Apparently, Anytime Fitness is open 24 hours and members "key in" to gain access. Does anyone have any opinions or exerience with it?
We are losing some members to the new Anytime Fitness that opened up a mile or two away. The general complaints have been that there is not much room, but I'm not sure and I've only ever looked in it and seen a kind of narrow walkway type gym. Have you been inside? Let me know if you have a squat rack.
In new orleans the busiest hours in my gym are an hour or two leading up to sunset and I wonder if it gets busy at anytime during those times.
Anytime has FLOODED the Baton Rouge area...I swear, there have to be at least nine locations around here...and then there's Snap Fitness which is the same thing.
Crazy b/c a decade ago, a chiropractor I worked for had the same concept...keycard access...wish he hadn't been a chiroquacktor, lol...

I would think that the ability to go there anytime would be a plus, John, considering your "off" hours would most likely be opposite those of most people! Could be a good thing!
The ones here seem to have a ton of cardio machines and Cybex/Technogym, from what i've seen passing by...each one is different, but the free weight areas of 'em seem small. I have no idea what the membership fees are. For that matter, I have no idea what any gym charges for memberhip fees these days...i'm so out of the loop!

My guess is going to be that the gym Izzo goes to may--just may--be different from the Anytime Fitness near you...

People in New Orleans change their gym habits based on the seasons?

I have been working out at an Anytime Fitness in San Antonio since February, and my experience has been mostly positive. My gym is one of the newer and larger Anytime Fitnesses. While it still isn't that big, it is big enough for what I am trying to accomplish. When I joined I was looking for a good value without all the bells and whistles of some of the luxury Fitness Clubs that are taking over the industry. I just wanted a place where I could lift weights without paying for the rock climbing wall, 3 swimming pools, smoothie bar, etc. That is exactly what I got with Anytime Fitness. I believe I pay around $25 a month. I usually go to the gym after work, but I have been at all hours.
Things I don't like about the gym:
-It is largely directed at the general fitness population that spends most of their time on the treadmill/elliptical and weight machines. Every cardio machine has it's own tv screen, and there are tons of weight machines. I rarely do cardio, and I only use free weights...so these are useless to me.
-There is only one squat rack. This will sometimes cause a problem as I use the squat rack, or the olympic bar from the squat rack, for squats, push presses, dynamic rows, deadlifts, etc. However, since I have only seen one or two people in my 10 months of working out at this gym perform these exercises, I almost always find the squat rack unoccupied.
- There is only one bench press station.
-I know it is nitpicky, but there is no chalk tray. I have never been told not to use chalk, but I have the feeling it is frowned upon. I have requested a chalk tray a few times using the suggestions box, but it has fallen on deaf ears. Considering that the one trainer at the gym that actually does deadlifts uses straps, I think I will continue to use my chalk in a stealthy manner.
-Need for heavier dumbbells. The heaviest dumbbells are 110 lbs. I have requested heavier dumbbells from the owner, and he seemed quite receptive to the idea.
Things I like about the gym:
-The price. Considering I don't need towels, a sauna, or a hot tub, I feel like I am getting a good value.
-The hours. You can't beat 24 hours.
-The gym clientele. Most are doing machines, biceps curls, or the Smith Machine. While I find myself snickering a lot, this leaves the free weights and the olympic bars free for my use.
-The staff and trainers. The staff is very accommodating. Since I wouldn't trust most of the clientele to spot me on a heavy bench press, I do tend to rely on the staff for lift-offs or spotting on the bench. One of the owners is also a licensed masseuse and is supposed to be really good at trigger point massage. She offers massage at a very reasonable rate. I have some impingement issues in my shoulder, so I may take advantage of this soon.
-The free weight section is usually pretty empty. In fact, the gym is usually pretty empty except at the peak hours. Of course, this may be more of an issue of the city I live in...definitely not one of the more fit cities in America.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.
i dont have many exerience with it, but i will say that you need to do, what's the best for your and yourself only, if you think it will help you then yes. If not then no.
I like Anytime Fitness. The one by my house is rarely busy, always clean, and has most everything I need. I just signed up for 2 more years. It works out well for me.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I actually stopped in an Anytime Fitness and the owner actually recognized me from another facility I had used. I was granted a 1 week trial. I will check it out...
