I wasn't sure if this question was for the training or nutrution area so I just threw it in here.
I have recently been working with some female clients who have been happy with their body fat losses but unhappy with their cup size losses. I realize, (dispite what some of the topical fat loss gels would like us to believe) that you can't choose where you lose BF from. However, I thought there might be some type of training or diet modification that claims to spare the cup size durring leaning. I haven't encountered any articles about this topic and I know it's a long shot because at the end of the day they are just fat tissue, but I figured I would toss it out to all of you.
I don't think there is anything that can be done about it. Most women do lose it since it is bodyfat. I can go low in my bodyfat, but I keep the cup size (mostly...just slightly smaller) for some reason. I think it's just the way my body works. There is nothing I do differently.
Tell your clients that they can either be fat with big ole titties or athletic with slight smaller ones, and mention an "informal survey" of myself and JMR that showed that 100% of men surveyed prefer the athletic with smaller breasts look out of the two.

let's say a woman is strength training, with the goal of losing body fat.
in the process she tends to lose size in her actual breast from the fat loss. but, because she's strength training and including in that training chest exercises, she would be buidling the pec muscles up behind the breast. therefore, she might lose her cup size, but, because the pec may build up a little, could make the breast protrude more so than if she had just lost the body fat in the breasts without building the pec muscles.
in other words, strength training may be the key. if a woman just loses weight by diet and aerobic exercise, then she drops in cup sizes, period. but, if she loses weight through diet and strength training/anaerobic exercise, she will lose cup sizes, but, build up the pec muscles behind it that could, in so many words, "soften the blow."
FYI, that there is no scientific basis for what i'm saying above, just a complete hail mary that might lead to more discussion.

WF, you are pretty much on the right track with your thinking. Working the pecs does make them stand up a bit more, but doesn't necessarily help the cup size all that much. Having them stand up rather than droop down is always a plus though
a proportionate body always looks better. I'd say if your body slims down and your chest does too you are still the same in the chest as you were before (in proportion) only they're not flabby and saggin. Quality not Quantity.
On another note, Birthcontrol usually helps keep the breasts for most girls. It can increase appetite though so you just have to be disaplined and keep to your workouts.
I think that's just becuase of the increase in appetite. If you keep in in check and keep up with the workouts it shouldn't be a problem.
Also, the weight gain only applies to some girls for some reason. Which is true for the chest increase too, however the hormones increase the size of the mammary glands in preparation for a baby. BC is fooling your body into thinking it's pregnant, so if you eat like that, Yes you'll gain all over BF.
