We do need 18 participants to make this event happen. No, that's not a sales gimmick, and no, I'm not a television evangelist either. This is being funded strictly on the basis of registration fees.
So if you're certain to come, register early because we need to get a good idea of how to plan.
For the people who have never come, just search back past Summit threads. You will not regret coming to this. Unless you're looking for a really hot French newscaster. Then you'll probably be disappointed.
HOTEL RESERVATION DEADLINE IS APRIL 10TH
Please contact me with your room reservation no later than the 10th.
Nick, thanks for getting on this so early. I'll start looking for flights.

I have a Depeche Mode concert to be at on May, 19. If anything gets screwed up and the summit moves forward, Nick will pay for this with a visit to Bulgaria where we'll get him drunk on heavy Bulgarian beer. I'm not kidding.
A good surprise, it's probably going to a stretch for me financially but I’ll certainly be looking into it. Will know better in Jan.
I may even get to see the Wizards play.
They're going to be better this year. And I'll go with you if you come because I want to see a game at the minor league park. (I don't think the soccer only stadium will be finished by then. hell, I don't think they've started it)
From what I've heard, it's pretty freaking sweet to see a soccer game on a baseball field.
(and thanks for the compliments everyone. I hope that this is an awesome time. Usually in December I'm thinking about Christmas. Instead, I'm thinking about this)
Not that I miss LR all that much as a city, but why KC?

I had originally thought that I could swing both a gym and a hotel, but there were a few factors.
With transportation out of the equation, it was to get a hotel in the burbs with not much to do near a gym, or get a hotel in the center of the city near an entertainment district. I figured that the nightlife/entertainment part trumped the gym part.
We're at a natural disadvantage because this isn't Little Rock, and we don't have a gym at our disposal. I could go rent one out, but we would need to figure out transportation after that, and the 2007 summit was kind of a mishmash when we all had to take vans everywhere. I wanted to keep everything on foot, and so the fun part of the weekend (not that the presentations aren't fun) trumped the presentation part.
And honestly, to the best of my knowledge, there is really going to only be one part of the summit that is hands on anyway. We're keeping it one day, and so most will be lectures and interactions, while the demonstrations will be something that will be able to be done with limited gym equipment.

Me
Yeah, that's selfish, but it's the truth. Not that I'm so important that the summit revolves around me--ok, yes, it does--but if I was to take over the planning duties, relieving JP of one more stress in his life--and don't worry folks, JP is going to be attending and hosting--I was going to have it in my backyard. I wasn't going to try to plan something in a different city where I was, not knowing the ins and outs of that location.
Also, I'm fortunate enough to be within shouting distance of Little Rock and in the middle of the country. It's still driveable for many people, and for the people that do fly, it will probably be cheaper to fly to KC because of the variety of connections and airlines, not to mention that there are more nonstop options. The one drawback is that the hotel is more expensive than the rate that JP has, but my hope is that for the people that fly that the airline savings mostly cancels out the increased room rate.
What isn't on the page is that the first 15 that order will get a personal demonstration of Alan Aragon kissing his 22 inch biceps while I poke his belly. You just can't get that anywhere else.

p.s. That beer comes with a waiver form.
I'd like some of that beer!
Speaking of which, any brewpubs/beer bars in the vicinity of the Summit?

Although the flight cost for me isn't the issue this year, it is a little cheaper for me to fly this year than it has been in previous years. We are talking like $700 vs $600. Either I can afford it or I can't, the savings on the flight isn't a big enough factor for me. I don't know if that is true for other people or not.
On one hand I am a little disappointed it is not in Little Rock, because I have never been there, on the other hand, it has been pointed out that the people are the most important thing, not the location.
I am glad to hear JP will be there. I have not officially signed up or anything, but now that I am out of school and have a decent job, it is a very real possibility for me.

Tom, it would be great if you could make it. I don't think the KC Symphony will be playing Mahler that weekend, but we can manage.

Og, it would be a pleasure to finally meet you in person. I hope you are able to make it.

I'm in. I trust there are kick ass microbrews there too.
P.S. Nick, since we're in KC, can I have the spare room in the trailer?

Oh my, it's in my state. Now I really have no excuses. (Except for the usual chickening out ones which I shall squelch.)

The Kansas City Symphony program for that weekend is Beethoven Overture to Coriolan, Shostakovich Violin Concerto No. 1 and Brahms Serenade No. 1. The guest conductor is Grant Llewellyn and the violinist is Baiba Skride.

Why you stiffing me on the stats? My two arms combined are at least 25". I think we have a good marketing angle with the belly poke part though.
it seems to me that we were promised singing - will there be more singing?
