Hey guys,
How do you warmup for dips and pullups? I'm actually more interested in the weight acclimation. How do you take 50% or 70% of your 5RM (for example)of a pullup?

I use the assisted pull-up machine to warm-up. Suppose you could do lat pull downs too.

50% to 70% would depend on how much you weigh + any weight you add when doing only 5 reps?

You could do bench dips to warm up for parallel bar dips. But cap has a great idea in using an assisted dip/pullup machine.

Or if you don't have access to a machine you could put a stool under your feet use your legs to help you up as a warm up.

I normally do pulldowns as a warmup for my pullups but I don't have an assisted pullup/dip machine. So my dips are still a problem. I don't know there right number of bench dips I should do for a proper warmup.

I typically do 50%, 75%, and 90% of the load I'm going to use in the lift. For pullups/chinups, I'd take my weight + the extra weight and divide in half for the for 50% one and do about eight pulldowns at that weight. Four at 75% and one and 90%.

For dips, I do eight bench dips with feet elevated, then using the same system as above, do four 75% dips (usually just my body weight), then I skip the 90% one (too lazy to drag one dumbell over to the dip station just for one rep).

If you're just doing body weight dips, you could do eight bench dips with your feet on the floor, then four with your feet elevated to the same level as your body, then normal dips.

If you don't have an assisted pullup/dip machine where you work out you may want to consider grabbing one of these Super Bands They're nothing too special, but they're only $10 and if you have something overhead to attach them to they can be suitable as a warm up aid.
