I had a totally different theme for this morning, but watching the news about the impending hit of hurricane Gustav on the Gulf Coast combined with some disturbing news I received about a friend only last night, I felt the need to express some different thoughts. You’ve read some of these thoughts before, I am sure, but I feel a need to express them once again.
It happens so often that we travel along life’s road and without warning, without any sign of what’s up ahead, we encounter a sharp curve. We are taken by surprise and only through some quick response do we keep from leaving the road altogether. Only through some deft maneuvering do we keep ourselves from crashing.
We all have those moments in our lives when a turn of events just knocks us back and we wonder if we are ever going to recover. Yet, somehow, we do. On these very forums I am confronted with people battling injury and illness, folks encountering school or job problems, and friends facing family crises and so much more.
Earlier this year I, myself, hit a few of those curves when two beloved family members died within a week of one another. And, I can say, without a moment’s hesitation, that the many good thoughts and prayers of so many of you, played a big part in helping me get through. Friends can have an almost miraculous healing effect on us when it seems our lives are at a low point. I got through those rough times and right now, some of the problems a few of those friends face make any current difficulties I may have seem insignificant by comparison.
Know this, all of you, my friends, that I hold your friendship close and treasure it. Take a moment to keep a special friend of mine in your thoughts and prayers and say a little prayer for all those that will face adversity this day through storm or strife. Rest assured that I will do the same for you.

John,
Thanks for pointing out what so many of us, myself included, take for granted. Even though I just left them, I just called my wife and son to tell them I love them.
