Mahler’s Monday Morning Motivator # 97 – The “too” syndrome
Good morning, guys!
Now that the New Year is in full swing, I hope that you have formulated your solutions for the rest of the year. I’ve had my game plan in place and ready to go since before the holidays and started January 2nd. As I said last week, I don’t make resolutions, I prefer to make solutions and encourage others to do the same.
By now and in the coming weeks, many people will be rethinking those grand plans that they made over a few drinks on New Years day. Soon they will be questioning the reasoning and even the sanity behind what they promised themselves. Many will decide that they acted out of impulse. They will justify their doubts because they are now facing the “too” syndrome. You certainly know what the “too” syndrome is, don’t you? It’s that point that you reach when you try to convince yourself that you have made a poor choice. It’s that moment when you delude yourself into thinking that not doing anything is better than doing something that might fail. It’s the crossroads on the avenue of action and resolve where you decide to take a left turn to a dead end or, worse yet, make a u-turn to nowhere. It manifests itself with some of these familiar catch phrases:
- too old
- too tired
- too difficult
- too complicated
- too early
- too late
- too much
- too little
- too time consuming
- too weak
- too cold
- too warm
- too many
- too few
- too busy
It is the defeater of plans, the conqueror of goals, and the destroyer of dreams.
How do I know that the word “too” is a killer? Because there is no such thing as being:
- too good
- too strong
- too committed
- too healthy
- too fit
- too smart
So, in the coming weeks, when you are cruising down the avenue, make sure that side street that you are tempted to take is marked with a big “Road Closed” sign. For the taking of this road will inevitably lead you on the path marked:
- too little
- too late
- too bad

Thanks for the Monday morning prime. It's a good reminder to keep focussed.

As always, excellent post Mr. Mahler. Thank you

Given the importance of sufficient rest and sleep, TOO TIRED could be a reason to sit back or nap. But that's only if one would usually be working out, not just sitting back anyway.
Good words, John. I'll be sure to leave the word TOO out of all my reasons in the future.
This motivator needs a bump, much more for the Mahler's message than anything I could think to say. Think about your solutions(better option to make than resolutions) for this year. Now that we are well into the year and summer time is here, we still need to keep the "too" syndrome at bay. There is an answer to every "too" problem, you just need to find it and keep yourself on track and off of the side road toward "too little, too late, too bad"
Are you ahead of where you were when this MMMM was written, if not, is it because the "too" syndrome is holding you back? Don't let it!
