Default The Lisa~ warmup

Hey everybody.
I was experimenting on my warmups before my weight routine and our good friend Lisa~ came through and helped me with some great exercises (some that I had no idea that even existed) for me to do.

I'm going to copy/paste her exact post from my training log here in hopes that it may help someone else who's trying to get in a good warmup routine that gets the blood pumping; and for those of you that can't stand me and haven't ever visited my training log.

Lisa~ , I certainly hope this is ok with you. You mentioned that instead of the PM that you'd post it in my log so others could see, so here goes.
BTW- if you have anything more to add to your already tremendous advice, please do so!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Terry, here are the mobility drills you pm'd me about. I wanted to put them here where others could see them, too. And you're right that I usually have the links at my fingertips, and if I don't, I enjoy hunting them up. I'm also picky about which video someone goes by, you know? So I love it when people ask for this stuff!

Band BTN pulldowns
Eric Cressey video:
TESTOSTERONE NATION - What I Learned in 2006

Spiderman climbs (also called Spiderman lunge)
Craig Ballantyne video that includes Spiderman push-up and Spiderman climb:
YouTube - Spiderman Exercises

Squat-to-stand
YouTube - Squat to stand

T-push-ups
This girl is doing them slow-mo, but it’s a good teaching video:
Push-Up Variation: T Push-Up | exercise video, how to, push-up | FitSugar - Fitness, Health & Well-Being.
Here’s Craig Ballantyne doing a bunch of push-up variations. He only does ½ of one quick T-push-up. YouTube - Pushup Variations
This guy’s got a good T-push-up (and other push-up variations), just turn the sound off and don’t listen to the stupid guy with the camera. YouTube - Push up
And finally, here’s a CrossFit type group doing T-push-ups and it’s instructive because none of them are strict with technique. The first guy doesn’t keep his arms straight, but otherwise looks good. Down the line you can see guys who lead with their hips instead of their shoulders. YouTube - "T" push-up drill 07-03-2008

They may be new to Terry, but I'm guessing a lot of people already know them. That's a pretty minimal warm-up IMO, too. I just wanted to turn Terry on to dynamic warm-ups. I'm glad you're excited Terry! Keep up the great work and if anybody else gets something good out of it, then that's an added bonus.

That is a great looking warm up. After starting Maximum Strength, I perform something similar to that everyday.
It really does get me going.....I never really put much thought into warming up before, besides just exercise specific warmups.

And I keep hearing about Cressy's magnificent mobility, I probably need to pick that up as well.

That's the reason I put it here. There were a couple guys that seemed pretty interested in my log and I figured everybody could benefit from it. I never really gave warming up much of a thought until TNT got me into it. Now that I've moved on I wanted something but wasn't sure what. Enter Lisa~

I really should do a proper warmup...my current warm-up consists of loading up a playlist on my PC, cranking up the stereo, and walking down to the basement. I do 2 or 3 warm-up sets before each exercise and that's it...

Lisa's awesome when it comes to prehab/rehab stuff. She really helped me out organizing a good program as well.

Great stuff, as usual, Lisa~

Thanks for sharing, Terry

I saw Magnificent Mobility mentioned and I definitely recommend it. I've been having some mobility issues with squat variations so I bought Magnificent Mobility and have been using it for 3 weeks now.....I am really glad I found it! It will be a while before my mobility issues are corrected but I think the exercises are very beneficial, both as a warm up and stand-alone exercise. If you buy it, make sure to get both the e-book AND the DVD as the e-book is a good reference during your workouts but you need the DVD for complete education and demonstration of the drills.

Lisa is the bomb! I have had the great pleasure of having her show me these things in person. Her DB thoracic extension is great!!! I consider myself very fortunate to have been close enough to her help me.
Hey Lisa *waving*!! I am still doing the best I can but I will have to pm you with a few questions!!!

Missy

Warmups aren't to be underestimated.

Especially when you have gangsta-ass joints like mine that pop at the drop of a dime.

Excellent links, Lisa! I've got poor ankle and hip mobility/flexiblilty, and started incorporated some more dynamic warm-ups into my workout over the last few weeks, using examples from Squat RX and Bill Hartman's youtube ankles video. I can really see it making a difference in my squat form. I think I'll be adding some of this stuff to my repertoire, too. Thanks for re-posting this, Terry.

Honestly, I don't think I can describe it over the internet. It's really something I'd need to show you in person and watch you do and correct your body position. It probably isn't even appropriate for everyone, but it was just right for Missy.
