I love that guy! His user name on a lot of message boards is DieselWeisel. People give him crap all the time, but he doesnt care or just doesnt know any better. He even got mentioned in an elite-lifts article as having "the best deadlift hitch". Most are surprised his spine is still in one piece....that is if he has one

Here is that article...

LOL! Did you notice him sniffing "poppers" right before his lift. Surprised he even put that in the video. His form is ridiculous!

The deadlifting one's are the best but he's got some other one's as well. I've got a whole collection of his antics!

there were a handful of them out there, those two were the ones that REALLY stood out.

sometimes I watch that sort of thing and scoff. when these came up it was more of a "no...oh god no...PLEASE STOP!!"

I think it was Q. or GqArtguy had links to a few of these, it was incredible. What was worse was he linked to the forum where diesel weasel had posted them where people were giving him mad props about how well he did lifting it.

Heres another, its not a funny, but if anyone feels like emulating Xfit, this is not the way to perform a Split Clean and jerk

GQ, having limited knowledge on the O-lifts, could you point out for me some of the major things he did wrong? I'm hoping to start learning them soon, so I'd like to know what to make sure NOT to do. Thanks

His back was rounded as the bar comes off the ground, and he barely hit 90 degrees in the split. The rounded back makes him pull back and takes the bar from the vertical path it should take. This causes the bar to crash on him rather than a smooth catch.

In a split clean or snatch, your hams should hit your calves like a low sqaut, and the angle of the front knee to 120-140 or so. Notice that he actually got lower in the jerk than the clean! During a split jerk, your torso should be completely vertical throughout the drive and catch, notice how he is wobbling foward and (for some reason) altering his depth in the split.

The final point is during his recovery. You when you end a split jerk, you should slide the front foot back first, then slide the back foot toward the front foot. The reason is because you are pushing up and back in a jerk, if you step back, it is a lot easier to lose the weight esp during a 1RM and theres very little room to save it.

I know Xfitters are not trying to be elite o-lifters but that form has a higher risk of short term injury, as well as long term injury to the joints and discs putting pressure like that where it doesnt belong, workout after workout.

For those that want to emulate Crossfit, go to their (usually) excellent exercise directory vids like the one for the Clean & Jerk to learn how to perform one properly.

Interestingly GQ, Xfit doesn't have a Split Clean and Jerk in their stable of exercises for WODs although the video is clearly at a Xfit facility in California.
