I'm about to buy a rowing machine from a guy on craiglist for $25. It's an Integrity Air 3000 the seller claims he bought about a year ago and used it only a few times and it's in perfect condition.

I really don't need one althought it can be useful for HIIT during the winter (I read gymrat talking about doing HIIT on a row machine) but sounds like a good deal since they are being sold for around $180-$200 dollars.

Any input?

As long as it works, for $25 you can't go wrong!

I have done HITT on one before and it kicks your a$$ quick. I remember insane arm pumps afterwords, that felt your arms were going to explode. Great for warming up too.

My vote, buy it!

Thanks for the post NL. I'm picking it up tomorrow and I think it will help me a lot. Who knows, maybe it's better than I expect, but how can I complain for 25 bucks?

Edited to add that here you can say ASS!!!!

Ugh!!!! That's mine and I paid damn near $180 for mine! Shit.

I'd definitely pick it up. I really like mine. It's definitely a different kind of workout. You really can do HIIT on it based on your speed/intensity. Watch your lower back... make sure you're not rounding it. Basically, like the girl in the pic, keep your back straight and when you come in to the flywheel only bend at your knees, don't round your back so your hands almost touch the wheel. Am I making any sense? Not sure I'm explaining this all to well.

Let me know what you think.

BTW - yes, that's a great price. shit.

*edit* another thing. No matter the shape it's in, I'd be sure and spray some WD40 on the wheel where the chain rolls up before you actually use it. my 2 cents.

Hey gymrat, I picked it up and I'm still a little confused about the basics of the exercise to be done on it. Another thing I noticed is that if I go too fast (considering that I'm doing it right)it feels like when I return the cable towards the fly wheel, it doesn't rewind fast enough to follow my speed. I also don't know if you can put a little more tension on the fly wheel to make it a little harder.

The damn company that makes it doesn't have a website where you can download the manuals, instructions, etc. I hate it when this happens. Other than that it feels like the machine is in perfect shape.

I have an old Precor rower in the attic that I might break out for HIIT. I bought it, rowed like a madman for 6 months, then summer hit and I gave up.

NYGuy - I just went down to my basement to see if I could find the instruction booklet. I usually keep them. I did find it and you're right no flipp'n website. Sheesh. Get with the times. ha!

Anyway. If you PM me with your address, I'll make copies of it this week and mail it out to you. Cool?

In the meantime... my handle almost seems to pull back on it's own. I'm betting that the flywheel needs to be "serviced" which I'm not even going to attempt to describe to you without you looking at the booklet. Have you sprayed the WD40 in there (where the chain recoils) yet? That really may help.
As for the resistance, you can change it....there should be a tension strap, like a nylon strap? and the instructions say:
"For greater resistance wrap the strap around the hub one time, for less resistance, unwrap the tension form around the hub."
The "hub" being the where that tension strap recoils into. I guess you can take it apart (haven't tried on mine).

Hey now.... wait a minute. I found a page that is for customer service. Says you can call them 1-800-321-9236 M-F 9am-5pm EST. or their website www.fitnessquest.com although I'm there on another browser now and it's not all that much. I bet if you called they'd send you some instructions. Don't know if they'd charge or not, if they do tell 'em to screw off - I'll make a copy and send it to you.

Hope this helps some.

Thanks for the help. GR, I really appreciate your offer, you are a very nice person and you too can count on me for anything that I can help you with (you know, like those cheap statue of liberty being sold on the streets ).

I called them today but I couldn't wait while on hold because I was very busy. I will try again tomorrow. I did some warm up on it today and I enjoyed it. I think that in order to make the cable rewing a little faster, all I have to do is add some more elastic (?) cable. It needs replacing the strap because it's a little worn out but it's not a major concern. I also sprayed with wd40 and the action felt a lot smoother. Man, I love that little machine and I love rich people getting rid of their stuff. I'm a huge craglist believer now.

They have the $5 and $7 ones. You look like a guy who likes gold and some diamonds on the finish, right?
