i've been doing ian king's great guns routine and just finished the 1st phase, and am about to start the second.

i have one problem though. the 2nd and 4th phases require eccentric sets, and i don't have a regular workout partner -- i work out at 6 every morning and am usually the only one at the gym.

. . . so my question is, are these eccentric sets crucial? in the workouts he says don't do them if you don't have a spotter/partner you can trust bc you should be lifting enough weight on those eccentric sets to where you can't do the concentric phase (or you need a lot of help).

the routine goes like this

set 1: 6 reps, 1 heavy rep
set 2: 6 reps, 1 heavy rep
set 3: 6 eccentric reps

so should i just repeat sets 1 and 2?

I was in a similar position when I did GG. I either begged someone to help (ie, the person working at the gym) or did as much weight as I could and really emphasized the negative part of the rep.
