personally i feel you can lose fat while still gaining muscle. i think this because i have done it myself but it depends on the individuals body too.
if youre after a 6 pack, look and work hardest on your diet. youre going to need to eat clean for sure. also incorporate some cardio between your lifting days.
list your diet and training program for us.
gaining muscle while losing fat is a hard thing to do.

Regarding your second question, do you have access to one of those small parachutes that you could let flow behind you as you run? Like the kind the NFL'ers use?
Maybe you could get some rope and drag a weight plate behind you on the ground. I'd work in intervals, shorter and then working your way up.
Just my 2 cents. good luck to you.

One week is not enough time for any kind of training to really increase your speed. The best thing to do would be to work on your start and running form. Improving your start alone could possibly shave the time. Also, trying to run with as little wasted motion as possible. All your energy should be used in moving forward, not bobbing the head, flailing the arms or legs. Good luck with your goals.
good advice. i would also add, and i'm not a track coach or even a real runner, but stay low out of your start. it'll reduce the wind resistance against you. speaking of wind resistance, would advise wearing some under armour when you're doing it...

it doesn't hurt this guy:
I have to say that i got a LOT and i mean a LOT faster after just a 4 day speed camp but that was 3 hours a day for 4 days. I'm not saying that my results were/are common. Basically, as nanook said-work on your start and form. Keep your elbows at a 90 degree angle and generate the power from your shoulders, moving your hand from "cheek to cheek" (face to buttocks). A couple of drills you can do to help your start are:

-Go up on your toes. lean forward until you are forced to stick out a foot for balance and then explode off for about 10 yards.

-have someone blow a whistle for you. Blow 1: drop down into pushup stance and start doing mountainclimbers Blow 2: explode off of whatever leg you have and go for about 10 yards.

i have a question about your running: is your 60 yd dash really a dash? Because 60yds is the same distance as first to third, my guess would be that you'd be running that. If it is, work on that crossover step and exploding off that and then work on getting a good turn and exploding off 2nd base.

Please let us know how it goes. I'm not familiar with showcases, but in the next few years i plan on doing a few (i'm a soph in high school). I play with a D1 prospect who's a senior now and he just did a showcase so i want to talk to him too so i can get an idea of what it is. I'd really appreciate it if you dropped me a PM about it when it's all said and done.

good luck

Kevin, it probably really is a 60-yd dash, as I also had to run it for MLB scouts while playing college baseball.

Good tips so far, I just have one more point:

Getting a six-pack, or getting that last ounce of fat off your "lower abs", will not necessarily help your baseball performance. Too low of a bf%, in fact, usually isn't desirable over the grind of a baseball season, whether college or MLB.

What is your priority right now, looking good or athletic performance? Working on one might help with the other, but in sports like baseball, the skills and training required are quite unique, and may not lead to what you see as your ideal physique. There are plenty of guys here who can help you with either goal, but going after both at the same time might not be realistic.
