Default BSS w/ OH press

I just finished up NROL Fat Loss 1 and will be moving onto NROL Fat Loss 2 next week. One of the exercises is BSS with over head press. This present s a problem for me. 1. I still need to hold onto something for balance when doing BSS AND 2. I can only do them with BW. So that pretty much eliminates the over head press part of the exercise for me.

So my question is...If you were me would you:

1. JUST do BSS

2. Do the BSS and overhead press as two separate exercises

or

3. Replace it with Squat with overhead press (There is no other squat in that particular workout)

I am leaning towards #3 but wanted to get a more knowledgeable and experienced opinion.

oh, and FWIW, I tried BSS today without holding onto something and I'm still not there yet!! I do REALLY NEED to hold onto something!

Have you tried using light dumbbells for balance? When I started doing these I actually found it easier to balance with them. Otherwise I would do them with the overhead press with no weight... Just use your hands then...

Were I in your shoes, I would continue to work on your balance and getting the balance/movement under control. From what I understand, these single leg movements really work on the musculature of the hips and the fact that you've been through a whole segment of Alwyn's workouts and still can't do them without holding on tells me that you are not ready to move on to the harder compound movement.

In conclusion, take your hand a-way from the wall! Stand close to the wall so that you can fall into it without hurting yourself, but remove your crutch before you move on.

Like RW said, stand near a wall, but don't touch it until you start to fall.

No worries if you're not ready to add weight yet. Do the overhead press without weights in hand, just raise your arms overhead. It will get you accustomed to the movement and make your body adjust to the change in your center of balance.

Do the BSS and follow it immediately with overhead presses. It's not quite the same thing as doing them together, but since we're talking fatloss, Alwyn is probably trying to rev up your metabolism with his combos/complexes, so do them back-to-back with no rest (i.e. BSS then overhead presses, then rest).

Some of the posters above are correct: doing the BSS's until you master them is important, so don't abandon them.

Definitely don't stop with the BSS's.....they come back time and time again and you need to master them.
