Default Hack squat on sled

Today I was doing squats when this "bodybuilder" came up to me and said I should try the hack squats. He said I would be able to lift more, adding more bulk to my hamstrings. I've never used that machine before and I was in a groove in my workout. I told him thanks and continued on with my squats.

I would like to know if there are benefits to the hack squat vs. regular old squating????

Hack squat machine or free weights? Assuming machines, you'd probably be okay telling him to go play on--ON, peanut gallery--his while you do some real work Free weights, eh, nothing wrong with just sticking to the basics. He's probably just feeling intimidated.

His guidance was way off. You were on the right track. How is a fixed plane machine for a quad-dominant exercise going to make your hammies bigger for one thing.

Tomorrow when he sees you deadlifting he will probably suggest a leg curl machine. Just roll your eyes and keep on lifting.

You've gotta add at the end "And that's the bottom line, 'cause JP said so".
If you gives you a weird look give him this website and maybe he can come and learn something.

personally, i think the hack squat machine is a great tool to increase deadlift numbers. But, not for beginners. Setting it up with bands is even more ideal but can be a pain if the machine doesnt have band pegs (like elitefts).

That seems to be a favorite pasttime of "bodybuilders" in commercial gyms
