Default Another Question about pull-ups

I remembered thinking about this when reading another thread about pull ups but I didn't want to steal someone elses thread.

I don't know about other gyms, but my student rec center doesn't have an actually pull up bar (that I know of) However, they do have these things:

Is it better to use the slanted bars or the bars that would have the palms facing inward?

In case anyone is wondering, I didn't actually take this picture, I found it on the website.

Take a better look at that picture....Above the clock, pull-up bar.

Sorry, the picture is kinda bad. The description of the bar I gave was the same as that spot you pointed out in the picture. The bar slants up then curves and points toward the clock right after those yellow blocks pointing down.

Basically your hands can be out wide on the slanted part, or roughly shoulder width but palms facing inward.

I use that kind of pull up bar at my gym. I love it.

I can do wide grip, close grip, palms facing me, palms facing away, mixed grip, towel pull ups, ect with it.

You sir, have a pullup bar. Go use it.

I hate the height of those bars because I am small and cannot reach it even if I go on my tippy toes or jumping up. I am only 5 foot. I use the machine type (with the seat down though because I can do bodyweight) and I do my pull ups that way. Underhand, neutral, or overhand. I cannot do bodyweight with wide grip and I don't know why. I hope its not bad that I can't do a bodyweight wide grip pull up. There are 2 kinds of wide grip pull up bars at my gym attached to the machine. One is for smaller people like me and there is one higher one that is for taller people.

neutral grip is fine. (palms facing in)

this is especially true if it's the only option available.

i think this is the way bars should be. Your feet shouldn't be touching the ground at all. Ever bar i've gone to with a few exceptions, you need to really tuck your knees so they don't hit the ground. I'm tall though, so that makes a difference, but it's annoying when you need to can kneel and still grab the bar.

That's pretty much what I was wondering. Thanks for answering my question guys. That's what I've been doing (because I can do more that way than trying to do the wide grip one; where I can only do 1)

The machine at my gym has steps you go on to reach the pull up bar (wide steps) and then once we get ready to do our pull ups, we have enough room between the steps to hang our legs. There is plenty of room. The one by the cable machine like in the picture posted on here, I can't reach that one.

By the way - what do you guys think of wide grip pull ups? (the ones that are more than shoulder widthe apart)
