Default Squat Clean

I have horrible range of motion in my wrists - I could never do a front squat without crossing my arms in front. I tried the squat clean the other night and found myself basically holding the bar while going down into the squat. Is there any form advice that makes this easier after cleaning the bar to get it in position to go directly into a front squat even if you have issues getting your wrists bent back that far to hold the bar in place?

How are you trying to hold the bar? You don't need more than the finger tips to just hold it in place if your'e racking it properly on the front shoulders.

you need to find a coach to teach you proper form. Or, watch lots and lots of videos and then film yourself, and critique it.

You need to make sure you're pulling the bar close to your body, and then dipping under the weight quick enough, and snapping your elbows up on the catch.

If you can't catch the bar due to inflexibility, you need to work on that, first and foremost. Get in the front squat position with a clean grip, and just stretch the hell out of your wrists and forearm.

Flexibility will come the more that you work on it.

Technically you dont even need to hold onto the bar to catch the clean, you just need it to land in the right spot so that it doesnt matter

Thanks guys. Right after I posted I went down to the gym and after a few reps I realized how to clean it up onto the front shoulders with just a few fingers in place. I was worried about how to then lower the bar since I didn't have a grip around it but it just falls into my hands perfectly when dropping it down.
