I just wanted bring this thread back up instead of starting a new one. I just got Starting Strength in the mail yesterday, and have read about half of it so far. It's a really a great read and Cressey knows his stuff.
I can't wait to finish up my last segment of powertraining so I can start this program. I haven't really ever lifted for strength before, I have just mainly done hypertrophy base programs trying to get "bigger". I believe that this is my down fall for not getting progressively stronger and bigger in the gym.
Was mainly just saying how I really recommend Starting Strength as a good book, and was wondering if any other people have read it or started on the program. Any thoughts?

To avoid confusion, "Starting Strength" is an excellent book, but it was written by Mark Rippetoe and Lon Kilgore. Cressey's book is "Maximum Strength".
I have it and I've read through it. It's a fantastic routine that keeps in mind the "average Joe" lifter. If you've read most of Cressey's stuff, you'll recognize a good bit of it. However, it is very cool to see it presented as an "entire package". I'll be doing it sometime this summer.
Thanks for that Ian, good to know and the fact you'll be doing it yourself speaks for itself

I've been through the program and it is awesome. I had tremendous strength gains. It's not for the faint of heart. It will kick you a$$. If you're looking for a good program you could do worse than this one. It's also reasonably priced.

Just got it in the mail today. Skimmed through the introduction stuff and checked out the program and the basics. Really looking forward to starting it week after next.

I may buy this one. I have a lot of respect for Eric.
But, I really would like to see one of those 58 page ads to really convince me.

I train with Tony Gentilcore and Eric. I have nothing but GREAT things to say about both guys. I work primarily with Tony, but I have been able to have Eric's input as well on many questions and I've learned a great deal in talking to him. Such a great resource, and I see him just about every week when I train.
Eric is so passionate about his work, it is great to be able to talk to him on a regular basis. Any question, concern, etc...he's right there, offering help or advice.
I was at the new Cressey Performance training center today. They just moved to a larger location, literally TODAY. Great place, same awesome instruction and training environment.
Eric gave me an autographed copy of Maximum Strength last week! Lucky me! I have read most of it, and it's great.
Just wish it came with a digital template...so I don't have to make the one I'm making right now

Deserve, as someone who has gone through the program, would you mind answering some questions if/when I think of them? Anybody else who has an opinions, it'd be great to hear you chime in.
First one regards pushups. Did you stick with 3 x 10 and add external resistance or up the reps? Move the feet up to make it harder?

haha yeah you're right. I guess I had both book on my mind when I typed the message, sorry about the typo.
But I can really tell I'm going to enjoy this style of lifting. Really looking forward to starting it soon as well.

I don't know about the book, but the guy in the cover is pretty darn good-looking!
Deb not only attended opening day at CP; she also hooked us up with a sweet fruit bouquet - pretty much the only non-supplement food I ate in a matter of 72 hours during the move! Thanks, Deb!

I'll have to check my log on the subject but 'm pretty sure I added weight.
I would love to answer any questions I can. I was lucky that Eric let me in on the test group. If you stick to the letter of the program you will see gains.

Thanks for stopping by Eric. How can I get my signed copy?

I'm looking forward to starting it the week starting on 5/18. I'll be following the lifting as close as possible, but I don't have access to a cable station so I did have to make some changes. For the first phase, I think I had to make three changes: bent over DB rows in place of seated cable rows, db scarecrows for cable external rotation, and band pull-throughs for pull-throughs. Is it following everything to a T? No, but I'm sure that if I keep the substitutions as close to the intended lift as possible and bust my butt, I'll get results.
For the first phase or two, I'll have to deal with baseball games that may affect recovery time. But, with no school and plenty of free time, that shouldn't be a big deal.
Really excited about this

I emailed all the "guinea pigs" to get their addresses, but never heard back from you. Just drop me an email at ec@ericcressey.com and I'll send one out for you right away.

Sorry, I changed e-mail address awhile ago and didn't think about it. I'll send you something later this morning.

So what are the workouts like? Are they suited for a nomal guy with barely enough time to workout given work and family? In other words, can I do it in 45-60 minutes 3 or 4x/week?

Absolutely. It's a 4x/week program. At first, it might take a bit longer as you learn the exercises, but once you've got them down, it's in and out in 60 minutes.
You might just want to do your foam rolling at home on the side so that you can get there and go right to the warm-ups.
