Default Who has read The Excercise Myth By Columbia Cardiologist Dr. Henry A Solomon

Have you ever read it? Fitness and health are entirely two different things.

Health is the ABSENSE of disease. Fitness is the ability to do more work efficiently.

One can have coronary artery disease and be fit. One can be very unfit and have no diseases.

Look into it. Read the book. Have YOU bought into the excercise myth?

Thanks, I'll take my chances with exercise, and a cherry on top.

you can be fit and have a disease, but being fit reduces the chance of many diseases.
Or are you saying that diet and exercise have no impact what so ever on your chances of getting certain diseases?

I just felt like being all serious today..

I see where you've gotten confused. It's Excercise that is a myth, not exercise.

I would disagree: health is the ability to function well. One can, and in fact as you age WILL, have a number of disease processes. If you can adapt and cope with them you may be able to do very well. There is a quote out there someplace, "Old age is not for sissies". The meaning obviously is that if you are brave and confrontive you can cope with a lot of things and prevail. And to you I wish a long and healthy old age.

Your point? Artery health is all about lifestyle (no amount of training will out do smoking, poor food choices etc) and heart disease has a large genetic component too.

most people are healthy b/c of fitness.

it's all a crapshoot anyway. you never know what you're going to get or when you're going to kick the bucket... Everyone's "health" declines eventually.

but who cares anyway? I love lifting weights or anything with fitness. I'd do it even if it didn't make me live longer or "healthier." I guess i buy into the myth.

I don't exercise to keep from croaking, I do it so that I enjoy a better quality of life before I do.

I've read most of Shakespeare's works. Does that count?
