Default Can anyone suggest a power rack?

Hello everyone,

I'm a newbie here and was hoping someone might be able to recommend a power rack. I have a half cage with high and low pulleys so I'm not looking for a lat attachment, just the rack for squats and presses.

I've searched the forums looking for a thread similar to this, but most of the ones I've found have dead links. Sorry if I've missed a good thread that has this info.

Thanks in advance for your help.

How much do you want to spend? We just bought a body solid commercial rack. Very heavy duty but might be too much for what everyone needs. They also have proline body solid which people have recommended and power tec also.

There is a fitness place that everyone recommends online, but I went in person to a place in my city for cheaper shipping.

I recently got the Apex AX PWR7 at Academy Sports for about $250. I needed something that would handle a 6' standard bar, since that is what I already had, although it also takes oly size bars too. One big advantage is that it also has an upper and lower (adjustable) pulley system in addition to the rack. It comes with a incline/decline bench as well, which you may not need, though.

How much can you afford?

Expect to pay $400 minimum, up to $5,000 if you're into extravagant displays of wealth.

We have a ToughStuff rack. Very happy with it. It costs $600-$700 I think.

If money were no object I would second ordering through EliteFTS.

craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums

Someone in your area doesn't want their rack and weights anymore, I can almost gaurantee it.

I am using the one from home-gym, which is always featured in the ironman magazine. Rather happy with it.

If you are looking at the 800lb poundages and above for any one of the power lifts, I would echo the views of others to look into elitefts, it's worth the investment. I've seen one personally and there is nothing that compares to it.

Dking is right about craigslist. The power rack is one fo the items people (or rather the wife) is most like to toss out when they think about re-doing the house. This community here might be an exception but everywhere else, someone is dropping out of an exercise program, which is why some people have said that it doesn't matter the rack you buy, because it will last only as long as you do.

OK, I have a question. Will a 7 ft standard BB work with a power rack or do you have to have an olympic bar?

thanks

The rack and bench are the two most important parts. Be willing to spend all you can to get ones with the most flexibility.

If you can afford a rack w/ high/low plate loaded pulley, do so. Normally, you don't need a decline bench if you have a dip station of some sort, but if you can't get a dip station, consider a bench that declines, etc.
