Default Getting Fit

Hey guys,

I'm a 17 year old guy and in High school. I have a question about getting/being fit. I have opportunities to run 2 days after school in the gym. I want to start but Im not sure if it will help a lot. I have work and homework the other days so I can only run after school on two days of the week for 30 min. My question is, will I loose the progress I have gained during those two days, during the other 5?

I don't have to get in shape for anything specific its just something I want to do. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Uhh.... thats a pretty random question/post...

But no, you're not going to lose you're fitness gains in the 5 days you don't run.

Well, getting fit may not be the best terminology here.

My advice would be to find some sort of target to shoot for, whether it is a physical goal or athletic event.

My other advice would be if you are cleared to do so, look into interval training, you only have two days, for 30 minutes, so I think it would be perfect and much more effective. Especially if you have some excess body weight to lose.

What else are you doing, lifting? bodyweight training? etc, etc???

I'm not really doing anything else. Maybe I should start. Ill look into this interval training.

The track team does a run around the track. They sprint on the straight parts and they walk the curves. Is that bascially Interval Training?

That's the methodology, but not the ideology.

HIIT revolves around effort and heartrate. Don't try to convert these ideas to MPH or steps/minute or any other measure of speed.

It's not about how fast you go, it's about how hard you push yourself and how high you get your heart pumping.

You can do anything for HIIT: Jumping jacks, cycling, burpees, hopscotch, etc.

I think a lot of people try to convert it to a speed factor because they don't have a heart rate monitor. In lieu of that, trying to equate it to speed is all you have, unless you're good at fingering your pulse.

We did a lot of eight count push-ups in Basic. They are a good bw exercise for gpp.
