Question

Hello,

I have been training for about 2 & 1/2 years primarily focusing on putting more weight on my little frame. However, as of late I have decided that I enjoy lifting for strength(O-Lifts, heavy presses, etc) much more than for hypertrophy/size. With that said other than some 5x5 or 8x3 work I have never really trained for strength so I am curious where the heck does one start when it comes to programs for strength training?

Thanks for any info you can give me. I look forward to lifting some heavy(er) stuff in the near future

Canadian Bacon,

The good news is that there's no shortage of options. The bad news is that it will take forever to sort them all out.

The most popular strength system seems to be Westside. http://www.elitefts.com for a lot of good articles.

You can also check out the FAQ page at http://www.tmag.com

And do a search of t-mag for Christian T's "Different Destinations" article, Alessi's "Reactive Strength," Poliquin's "The 6-1 Principle," and anything by Dave Tate. That should give you plenty of reading to do. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of experience training specifically for strength (beyond 5x5 type stuff, some cluster sets, etc.) so I don't feel qualified to recommend a specific approach.

I hope this helps,
Jake

I have read up alot on Westside and I love the idea of DE/ME days But i just wonder if it is perhaps overkill when I am just starting out. IE start w/ something simpler to get numbers up before going to a conjugated program like westside.
