Default Knee sleeves

I Don't mean knee wraps. Many Olympic lifters, Strong man competitors and others use them but are they any good for you. I have heard that Mike Robertson promotes the use of them but doesn't explain why.

Do they help you maintain healthy knees if so should they be used during single leg movements? I have other questions but tackling one point at a time will ask for more information after some responses.
