Coming back from the flu
I had the flu with fever almost two weeks ago but the cough and other related s&*t didn't away until the past day or so. I thought that, because the fever had gone, I'd be ready to hit the gym but, when I tried, I had nothing to give! I finally feel normal enough to go back to a full workout but it sure seems like it took a while. Is this a function of my age or does it just take a while? I've tried doing light stuff now and again but
could only muster meager efforts... it was disappointing!

Been there. At the beginning of the year, when I was all fired up to restore my health and strength, I got the flu. Good luck with the recovery. It'll come back pretty quick.

I know when I was sick (just recovering myself), and when people are sick in general, nutrition suffers. For me, I have been eating less, with a higher percent of calories from carbohydrates. I have also found it hard to consume enough liquid to stay hydrated. I'm sure that when I hit the gym on Tuesday my performance will be sub-par.
So, to make a long story short, how is your nutrition now vs. when sick?

It just now got back to where it was a couple of weeks ago. I didn't feel like eating anything for days. When I started figuring out that I was weak due to not eating, then I forced myself but I had such little taste for most everything that I also was eating a lot of carbs just to get something in me. I really never felt that nauseas but just no appetite... which NEVER happens! I think I'll feel pretty good tomorrow when I go to the gym. I worked pretty hard in the yard today digging and planting with no ill effects so I think I'm ready.

Brad,
I rarely have the problems you mention, but I am glad you are getting better and back in the gym.

Yeah, take it bit by bit and get back in the gym. I was sick a week ago and took about a week off the gym. I've had a couple of strength sessions since then, but somehow don't feel like I have the energy ready for high intensity yet. I did a boxing round (heavy bag) but haven't been quite ready for db swings, etc.

It takes me forever to recover (and it is frustrating as heck!). Not sure if it is age, or more likely just individual immune system strength or something. Just listen to your body and don't force anything. If you need an extra rest day, then take it!
