b4 joining the gym i use to do running and jogging.i would do weights for 10 to 15 mins i did this routine for 2 years i gained a Lil bit of muscle.

but Ive always found it hard to put on weight.i even stopped one summer running jogging didn play soccer or nothing anymore just to try put on weight the only place the weight went was my stomach my arms are extremely thin same as legs .

i got back into shape and laid off the weights for about 5 months.

now i joined my gym just b4 Christmas.

since the first of January Ive been doing 10km on the treadmill 2 km on the bike.

my weights routine is i do 110 to 170 pound on the row machine

90 to 130 on the ab machine

220 to 300 on the leg machine the one were u push with ur legs

i do 30 to 90 pounds on the should press machine

my normal eating routine is for breakfast cereal apple orange yogurt grapes and cyclone weight shake

after a 2 hour work out it takes me around 30 to 45 mins 2 get home i have nothing but a drink b4 i get home

den i would have pasta or chicken noramly as lunch with cyclone shake plus a banana

for dinner i would have fish beans potatoes or spaghetti balance or cabbage rib and potatoes that's what id have on average

for a late night snack id propbaly have pasta or chicken whichever 1 i didn eat for lunch plus a cyclone shake

i am still very slim but again my hips and stomach have a lot of fat around it

my legs have improved a bit

but my arms face neck wrists calves are still slim

so what i want to no is am i not working out right

do i need to do more den the weight machines and start bench pressing and using dumbells

am i not doing long enough on the treadmill

is my eating wrong

im not looking to become a body builder i just want to have nice abs and keep in shape

I think you'd probably have better results if you used some sort of paragraph structure.

That's not much of a weight training program you have listed there......

I dont know if you're actually a hardgainer/ectomorph, or if you're just not eating and training enough. . .but, regardless, I think the following is a good place to start (and I can personally attest to their results):

For nutrition:
John Berardi is a godsend, and his massive eating reloaded plan kicks ass for gaining good weight:
Part 1: John Berardi - Massive Eating Reloaded, Part I
Part 2: John Berardi - Massive Eating Reloaded, Part II
ME Calorie Calculator: John Berardi - The Massive Eating Calculator

For a good weight training regimen, I would try to incorporate multi-compound movements (squats, military press, pushups, bench-press, deadlifts, etc) and push/pull routine. . .not necessarily bodypart specific exercises or machines. I have had good results with Joe DeFranco's Westside for Skinny Bastards II: DeFranco's Training - Westside for Skinny Bastards, Part II.

In terms of running, if you're trying to gain muscle mass, most ppl are going to say long bouts of steady state cardio (like what you're doing now) are detrimental. If you feel the need to run then incorporate 1-2 days of interval training into your routine. . . actually, as I look at it, the westside for skinny bastards does do that so there you go.

Also, if you want to bulk up the rest of your body, you're gonna have to lose sight of your abs for a little while. But if you eat cleanly and work out hard it wont be too much of a sacrifice and easier to lean up later on.

Basically, the bottom line is that you need to eat and workout more and do it in an organized manner.

Default clarification

by workout more i mean lift more, not run more. 10km on the treadmill?? No wonder you're too skinny. Your abs are not gonna show even if you run 20km; you need some muscle to up your metabolism and then work on the abs. . .

Steo

Welcome to the boards. You need to get a routine, sounds like you are just "puttering" around in the gym. Look in the FAQS for diiferent routines. Stay off the machines and do free weights (especially stay away from the leg press machine). If you want to gain weighjt you need to eat eat eat. Squat, and deadlift!!!

Have a look at some full body programs. BTW, though it may be KOOL to write with in all lowercase, with no punctuation, it makes it difficult to follow. So if you want more responses to your queries, take the time to make your posts more readable.

Again, welcome to the boards.
