Got Complemented on Squat Form
It's the little things at the gym that weigh out the bad things you have to deal with (at least for a little while, until the next time you can't squat because someone is curling there). I was doing my set of squats and before my last set a guy comes over:
Him: "Hey, who taught you to squat?" (Long Island accent)
Me: "Umm...no..one?"
Him: "Oh, well you have really good form and you go really deep"
Me: (relief) "Oh, thanks, I just read a lot of good tips online to help me"
Him: "I started over with my squats because I knew my form wasn't right, so I can't do as much weight but I want to go deep".
So his motives are pure, but I wish he didn't proceed to go to the smith machine and do hack squats, since I don't think he meant to be leaning that far back, but who am I to question. I finished my last set feeling pretty good, but *really* making sure my form is perfect after that, feeling good.

It really is a boost when someone notices the good things you are doing. Thanks for sharing it.

Well it mainly goes to show how much all the good advice given on this forum, and all the good links provided, really help a lot. Perhaps I should have posted this in one of the "thanks to JP for providing the forums" threads.

Something like sometimes happens to me as well when I am in gym. But generally I see people doing it in wrong way and I correct them. We do little talking and get started eventually.

It's a great feeling to get a compliment and it's motivational too! Good for you for setting the example!

Thanks. I'm sure that some of the advice that I've read and applied has come from the many helpful things that you post.

I'd be nervous if someone were to compliment my squat.
"Awesome squat dude!"
"Don't be standing behind me saying that!"

He was off to my left doing his stuff, was never at any point behind me, so that aspect of sketchiness has been averted, at least.
