Anybody know anything about the Cooper Institute in terms of their research, certifications, programs, etc? I know it's been around a long time because I did some landscape work there in the late 70's but I wasn't a client. I heard on the radio the other day that they have a great collection of research materials.

Oh yeah... Cooper institute is like Mecca. I would love to live close to it. I want to visit some time when I can just live on campus for a week and take classes. Great place to get certified too!

How do their certification compare to others, such as CSCS? Seems like it would be more local or regional but I noticed they have a larged number of specialties.

I thought the Cooper Institute were the leading proponents of aerobic activity? Sort of the arch enemies of Lou Schuler and Mike Mejia. At least that is my perception of the way they are portrayed.

Yep... mine, too! That's why I was wondering. I'm almost positive they have an aerobic bias. Ken Cooped is (was?) a big marathon runner. Like I said, I actually worked on the place long ago and it was at the time when "jogging" was becoming the in thing. I don't know if it's still that way or not... hence my questions...

So, here's one of the books they use for their certification. Anybody ever seen it or know anything about it?

I used to think that it might be fun to learn to train people over 50 (since I'm soon to be in that group) and they offer a certification for that... but DAMN, this stuff looks really boring!!! Where's the IRON!?! I don't think I could do it.
