As my friend refers to them - BUW - Big Underwear Women. Great if you like women who are large and in charge.
On a more serious note - being in Chicago, which is always up there in the fattest city listings - it seems it has become chic to be overweight among young people. Especially among females. A trip to a local mall reveals overweight teens flaunting their fat with tight jeans, revealed midriffs poking out over pant waistbands, etc. And eating absolutely the worst junk foods. Used to be that if you were overweight, you wore baggy clothes to hide it. Even the so-called 'thin girls' now have definite 'junk in their trunk.' You see much less of the typical gawky skinny teenager nowadays. From an aesthetic sense, I could care less...part of me is glad that looks are not the overriding concern for them if they are fat. But the part that is in the majority fears for their future health, and our nation's future health care costs.
Finally, yes I do realize this post is probably sexist. There are just as many fat teenage boys - the difference being that they still hide it with baggy clothes and knit caps. You don't see them stuffing themselves into clothes that don't fit and show skin.
OK, I'm done with my sexist, misogynist rant.
