Default Have you learnt anything vaulable in 2007?

Have you learnt anything valuable in 2007 regarding fitness/nutrition/health that you have found personally beneficial or highly likely to be beneficial to others?

Personally I learned about running a marathon and ran/walked my first. (Thanks to the guys and gals in the running forum for encouragement.) An unexpected side benefit was that I really learned about rest days and how chronically sleep deprived I've been. Over the past 2 months, since the marathon, my cross training has been much better by taking more rest days and getting more sleep (I cut out caffeine after lunch).

Any anecdotal tips or lessons from others?

I'm always learning. If you're not learning, you're not progressing.

I've learned that by being around big, strong guys... I can get bigger and stronger. Watching guys carry 800 or more pounds 150 feet in person motivated me more and gave me more determination to do the same than seeing the same exact thing on TV.

I learned better mechanics in my sprinting and about my muscle inbalances (trying to fix them and also improve my flexibility). I also learned how to create a weightraining routine, which I had trouble doing most of the year. I finally figured out a routine I could do that will keep me from getting muscle inbalances. The horizontal push/pull, vertical push/pull, quad dominant, hip dominant, and rotation.

As long as you draw breath, you should be learning something.

This year, the main thing I learned is:
-its not the training method or diet that matters, its the effort you put into both of them.

I've learned what motivates me, what can kill it and how to better recharge my motivation.
