dont expect to do it that fast...im a lot younger than you, so ull see results faster, but not that quickly....how much do u curl and bench right now?.....

i can curl a max of 45 in each arm and i can bench about 150, but the big thing i want to train for is to beat my other cousins friend becuz me and him are training to beat him and niether one of us is a match to him.. he can curl 100 in each arm and bench 400 so yea we want to win lol.
see when i started in feb i could only barly curl 5 lbs and i tried triceps but didnt stick with it but i only worked with 5 lbs for about a month in the triceps. my cousin mark is the one training me and he's 27 but my cousin howie is the one who has the friend and me and howie want to be stronger than him and then me and howie tend to face off so it's kinda a melee.
Does your competition squat and dead lift? Dead lifts and squats are great for developing and measuring strength. Curls really aren’t that great of measure of strength. It’s important to work the whole body.
actually i'm not sure if he deadlifts or squats but if he does i don't think he does too often...how do you do a dead lift? lol i don't really know how to and i'm not really sure how to do a good squat....i think he mite deadlift and squat 2-4 times a week tho and i know he was taking Creatine.
Hey, if beating your cousin motivates you do train, then more power to you. I'm not sure how realistic your goal is, but I'm not you. There is plenty of information in this forum that is relevant to you if you just have the patience and perserverence to read stuff that has already been posted. But I really think it's important that you at least go through that process so that there's a baseline understanding of some stuff (like, for starters, what is a deadlift) before someone starts firing a program at you.
hmmm your absolutly right...i must learn some things and i have set a maximum time limit of another 8 months to reach these goals, and i would like to be able to bench 350 by at least thanksgiving (how realistic is that?) and i would like to be able to curl about 60 by Halloween (if thats enuff time) so yea i think i can wait for a little while but i'm not sure if it's enuff time to get to where i want to be. altho i would like to be able to do this stuff by these months i may not be able to and if i can't then like i said i shall train another full 8 months to be very powerful...i want to be super strong but not huge and bulky if u know what i mean...how can i accomplish these tasks? and someone explain to me how to do a dead lift plz?
There's a lot of us who have been lifting for years and years, and we can't bench 300, let alone 350.
If you are being serious here, I'd suggest doing a search on this forum for some of this information. It's been touched on before.
Go to www.exrx.com for some information on how to do lifts. Good luck w/ everything...

Let me make sure I got this right...
You are 18 Years old, 280lbs, 5'11". You started lifting in Feb, 7 Months ago. You have done nothing but curled for 7 months and went from 5lbs Dumbells, to 45lbs Dumbell. Even thought you don't bench, you can bench 150lbs, and want to increase that by 100lbs in 8 weeks. The reason for this is you have a cousin that has been training for 10 years who can bench 400lbs and curl 100lb DB's. Your motivation is to beat him in 2 months. To do this, you would like to know...
What needs to be done
When to do it
How much to do, and
What the form would be.
Think about what you are asking before you create a post like this an sound like a complete tool. There is some great info out there, and I suggest you search for it or purchase it...
I would set a goal of understanding weight training in 2 months instead of benching 250lbs...

You are insane if you think you are going to bench 350 by Thanksgiving. The only thing you are going to do by Thankgiving is...
1. Quit
2. Hurt Yourself
3. Both.
350 Would cruch you. It took my 2 years to increase my bench 70lbs and I train 3-4 days a week and know what I am doing. You have been doing nothing but curling since you started 7 months ago. Sorry If I am being hard on ya, but you need to stop typing and start reading...
Go to Google.com. Type in "Deadlift"
There, now you know what a dealift is. If you have a specific question about Deadlifts, post it and I am sure someone while chim in...
POSTED ON 8/15 BY YOU...
"I turned 18 this month on the 13th and I started weight lifting in february and I could only curl 5LBS barly. now I curl 45LBS max and I can bench only about 120LBS...I can deadlift about 250LBs and my advice is to just increase the weights about 5 to 10LBS every month ok."
so i guess you know how to dealift as you did it with 250lbs. (bullshit) You didn't deadlift 250 lbs and I noticed your bench went down 30lbs in 1 day...
Why is it that every kid under 18years old, who is new to lifting feels they need to lie about what they know and how much they lift?

I'd call it the infallibility of youth. When I was 18 (almost half of my life ago, sheesh), I thought like every other 18 year old, that I was invincible. Having to admit that I wasn't the hulking beast that I thought I was in my own head, to acknowledge that I had a fault or two, was a very difficult thing to do.
Red_Bat, I think that you have done some good things. Namely, you discovered an interest in improving your level of fitness and improving your body, and you found this site, which is filled with good, knowledgeable people who are more than willing to lend a helping hand.
I also think that you have done some not-so-good things. Doing nothing but curls for 8 months will do very little to improve anything other than the amount of weight you can curl (there are much better ways of improving your curl 1RM, by the way). Setting goals that noone on earth can possibly achieve is a sure way to set yourself up for failure (such as increasing your bench from 120 to 250 in a few months). If your current 1RM bench press is 120, then my guess is that a realistic goal would be 140 or 150 by the end of 2004 (even that is pushing it, IMO, and would require alot of effort on your part).
Lastly, I think that training to increase your max on specific lifts is the wrong way to go about transforming your body. You need to start a complete, whole-body workout such as the Turbulence program, or the Home-Grown Muscle program (via Men's Health), or go to the bookstore and purchase the Book of Muscle (I'm currently using this book, and I think it's a great program so far).
If you work on improving your entire body, the personal records will take care of themselves.
Best of luck to you, in whatever you decide to do. For what it's worth, I have been lifting fairly regularly for the last 4 years, and was recently able to achieve a 1RM bench of 225. It may not sound like much, but it was a great day for me.
I being an 18 year old as well as a scholar of fitness...must defend all other 18 year olds who have SOME common sense...this dude really gives people like me a bad name...but on the other hand without those first stupid goals, an interst in this field would never be sparked.....Isn't it sad that so many kids my age are to stubborn to learn anything since they are so confident that they know what they are doing??When i go to my gym I constantly see kids doing pointless sets of crunches to get those great abs when they give 2 shits about their diet...i just find it interesting how people have such misconceptions....i guess its no different then studying by skimming a textbook in 5 minutes....some atypical people have the ability to do such things but in reality the majority of people couldnt ever actual retain anything from studying like that.....this is my first rant here..enjoy

WOW what a post. I haven't been here in a couple of months. But here is my 2 cents.
Red_Bat-
I would definitely start with improving you overal fitness. Trying to beat your cousin in a few months isn't very reallistic. I'd make it a long term goal. (since he's been doing this for 10 years and you have been doing it for 6 months) Check for posts on full body workouts. Hit big muscle groups and CHANGE YOUR DIET!!! Also Be honest with yourself and others. Those meatheads who lie about how much they lift and have horrible form are just that... meatheads.
Newlife-
Tough-Love... way to go.
