Default Sweating and hydrating during workouts

For low cardio weight lifting at the gym I sweat like Im in Cambodia. When I wear my nike space-age material running shirt, I sweat even more as if Im having an allergic reaction.

Whats the deal, am I not hydrating properly before or during my workout?

When I do martial arts I sweat profusely along with everyone else, but when Im working out in the gym Im the only one.

With regards to hydrating, I consequently hit the water fountain after every 2 exercises (or 6 sets). Thats 3 times per workout I guess. Too much? When training in martial arts we only hydrate twice in a 2 hour session.

As soon as I touch a weight I start sweating. I just chalk it up to my body being efficient and realizing I'm about to get to work. When it comes to hydration, I take a sip of water between nearly every set. Mostly part of my routine now.

If I remember right, someone here recommended making sure you're getting enough salt because it helps the body to retain water.

The boundary between excess and just so is never clear and is different for each person.

I agree that it's just an individual thing. Some people just sweat a lot and some don't sweat enough. If you sweat easily, then you'll be able to handle working in heat better than the person who doesn't sweat easily. Just drink a lot of water and you might need electrolyte replacement sooner than others.

I feel like I am always the most sweaty person in the gym. The guy nobody wants to guard in basketball and such. Because I sweat so much I try to drink a fair amount of water. I'm no expert but I seriously doubt you are over hydrating. Some people sweat more, its just your body cooling itself down. Like eastcoast said, maybe you are just more efficient at responding to the stress you are putting your body through. Also like the others said, if your workouts are pretty long you might want to think about replenishing your electrolytes with a sport drink or something.

I've found that wearing a headband helps me out a lot. I cut the sleeves off of old t-shirts and pull that down over my forehead. Sure, it looks foolish, but I think it helps keep me cool as it's going to naturally stay wet. It seems I sweat less when I wear one. Also, I think I notice it less as its not always dripping into my eyes.

Hi Simplex

On thing you will notice when you are in Japan, there seem to be a lot less people sweating. I think in part it has to do with them being acclimatized to the temperature. In winter "Room Temperature" is also much higher than what you are used to back home. The other thing is Japanese in general do not seem to drink very much liquid (comparatively speaking) which affects how much they sweat. And if you are doing the 5 liters a day of water routine, you will probably sweat more (or urinate more)

As for salt intake, I get almost no salt in my Japanese food since it just isn't used, especially with what I cook. That could be a problem. Im not drinking 5L of water a day so I better up the quantity soon too.

And yah, room temperature in Japan is ridiculously hot.

I'm an excessive sweater as well (I can lose almost one pound per mile when I run during warm weather). I'm not sure there's any compelling reason to ingest more salt in your diet. I don't limit salt intake, and I still shed water at ridiculous levels. Plus, if you are adapted (from a taste standpoint) to a lower sodium diet, I would stick with it, as there is no reason to consume additional sodium above what naturally occurs in food.

I think you just have to live with the excess perspiration.
