Default drinks

my story:

Im a big man, about 5'10 and 300 pounds, 22 years old. I was asked to lose weight for my health, but I like kinda like being the "lovable big guy" but i agreed, so I want o turn the fat to muscle that way im a healty big man

I just starting to diet and workout and so far evrything is great but my friend brought up a good point last night and I was hoping someone here could help.

About once a week I get together with friends and family and have a few drinks. This is somthing I enjoy, but there is no way I can drink beer while on a diet. Is there anythink I can have to replace it with or do I have to say goodbye to my night out?

As mentioned above rum and diet is about the lowest cal thing you can get. I think though, it's probably more important to look at how much you're drinking than what you are drinking. If you have 1 or 2 drinks, then you can probably go with anything you want. If you're drinking 10 drinks to get blasted, then what you drank isn't going to make much difference...not to mention all the anti-fatloss effects of alcohol in the first place.

Why does not having a drink have to equal losing your night out w/ friends and family?

Like they said, rum and coke, or most hard alcohol and diet soda is the best bet. Diet soda is the key, if you are going to use regular coke you will be having so much extra sugar you might as well have the few beers instead. Also like they stated, the real question is are you having a few drinks or getting wasted? Another huge problem with drinking is after a few, most people start to relax and give in to cravings. So say your friends order a huge pizza, sober you might have said no but with some alcohol flowing you are going to be more inclined to dig in. At the very least, just try to think about all those things when you go out with your friends.

thanks, diet rum and coke seem to be the way to go, and I am only having a few drinks not getting wasted. You are right about the pizza thing though, when we get together to watch a ufc ppv we would order a couple, It may be hard to not give in but im sure I can do it.

Vodka and Club Soda witha twist of lime is a good choice. A side benefit is that after you have had a few and switch to straight club soda the drink still looks the same so you don't catch too much flack. As far as the pizza thing goes a slice or 2 of cheese pizza isn't going to kill your diet. I would suggest that you stay away from the fatty toppings like the pepperoni and maybe get some veggies like peppers and onions to boost the nutrition.

Rum 151 and diet coke. You won't need much.

This is good idea, b/c you also end up drinking more slowly when something is on the rocks.

I agree with drinking something on the rocks. There are a lot of bourbons that are great on the rocks imo. Some that I like are Wild Turkey(Rare Breed), Crown Royale, and George Dickle white label

Nothing wrong with "diet" soda either. When I do rarely drink, I usually drink one mixed drink and then follow it with plain diet soda and water; alternating back and forth between soda and water. Just another option to try.

btw, watch the eating as well. Things like Pizza and chips ect will be far more damaging to your diet than a couple of drinks.

I prefer mixed drinks to on the rocks because I get dehydrated to quickly and that affects recovery.

Depends on what you mix with. Anything carbonated will cause a faster absorption of the alcohol (and thus quicker dehydration). Also, caffeine is a diarrhetic.

Yeah a slice or 2 is fine. The problem is after a few drinks the temptation to have 5 or 6 goes through the roof. It really depends on how much will power and ability to fight a craving a person has. Sometimes when my friends order pizza and wings I might have a bite but I'll also have something like nuts on the side to nibble on while they stuff their face. This seems to work pretty good.

another thing i do when there is pizza involved is always make sure i am last to serve myself. so every one gets a slice and then i grab mine and then wait for weveryone to get their next slice(s) before i even think whether i want seconds. this helps me in 2 ways. one my stomach has a little time to tell my brain ok we're feeling fine we don't need to eat more or what more often happens the pizza(s) is(are) gone before i have to make the crucial decision whether to have more than a slice or two. but then again my friends tend to wolf pizza down like its going out of style. so if your friends eat slowly this might not work.
