I think I am doing my deadlifts wrong, as my lower back hurts some today, more than usual. Could someone please tell me the proper form? Currently, I bend the knees some, making sure they don't go ahead of my toes, keep my back straight, go down, pick up the bar, come back up, then repeat. What am I doing wrong or is that I just need to get used to the exercise? Thanks for any help.
It sounds like you're starting deadlifts for the first time - if that's right, I'd suggest starting with lighter-than-necessary weight for a while until you're comfortable with your form being perfect.
The deadlift works your lower back to some extent, but should not cause problems if done properly.
What style DL are you doing? Depending on your build, either regular DL or sumo DL might be better. I've got a longer torso and relatively shorter arms, and I have found that sumos work best, taking the strain off of my lower back. If you're a long-armed ape (like a lot of these guys) than regular DL's should be fine, and you just need to work on form and posterior-chain strength.

The exrx.net site is great for instructional videos. When I first started adding deadlifts into my routine I had this same problem. My recommendation, if you workout in a gym, is to ask a trainer or someone you know knows what the hell they are talking about how to perform a deadlift with good form, and if possible if they can just look and see if you are doing it correct for a set.
i can't access the link here at work, but search for Dave Tate's article "top ten deadlifting mistakes" (or something like that). it's on elitefts.com & t-mag...excellent must-read article for correct deadlifting imo.
exrx.net is a good site, but i don't always trust the form the people are using.

I aggre 100%. If you look at his stiff legged dead, he curves his back and doesn't keep it straight. Is this vid better form? http://www.menshealth.com/cda/articl...html#video_184
The bb doesn't seem to work but the db one does.
