Similar to doing them on olympic rings. I made a mention of using rings to do a lot of things the other day, not sure if it was here or somewhere else though. You can make them real cheap and do pullups, dips, pushups, flies, rows, planches and many other exercises. They make most exercises harder, and are one of the best investments for a home gym in my opinion.

I have a pair of rings that I do several exercises on, including push-ups.It is a much different feel from regular push-ups and allows you a greater range of motion as well as more stabilizer involvement.

Why not just focus on getting a solid performance on bench press, or DB chest press? I guess it depends on your goals. What are they that this exercise would advance you to them?

I would think you would have more range of motion than using a bar as the bar would restrict movement past your chest. I also assume you use a ton of core muscles and your abs to remain straight vs. letting the bench maintain form for you. It would be very close to DB Press, but I would think it would be a new challange and shock your body in a new way. I could be wrong...

I look at this like doing rows by hanging on a bar in a cage with my body lying on the floor. Pull yourself up towards the bar and it's like a row, BUT I can tell you this hits the muscles much different than when I do rows with a cable seated. Its the same muscles and form, but it just feels new and different.

What do you think?

The increased difficulity for the dips, flies and a progression to iron cross and planches are what I use rings for. JP, try throwing some chains over your cage and rep out some dips. The wider your chains at the top the more you will have to push in and down. I like them for the cost versus a dip/pullup tower. Just wish I would have found them before I spent $150 on my power tower. I am not trying to argue that rings are the best piece of training equipment that there is, but they are very useful for the price. And while I like to pound out a heavy bench press, I think there is still value in pushups and stability exercises. I use ring pushups in my GPP workouts, not part of my chest/tricep workouts, for those it is dips and bench.

(Do you guys see my avator?)
