Hi again...
I have some olympic weights and some standard weight. I have an adapter to use also. I think its a pain in the ass to need a plate, and realize the only way to get the weight is to unload the bar and swith types. was wondering if anyone thought i should convert to olympic or standard. I want to switch to one main one(but keep the others) so i can buy more of those type of weight and not waste money on the others

Olympic. You can buy a 300 lb oly weight set with the bar and collars for 100-120$ at Dick's Sporting Goods or similar stores. Once you outgrow the 300 lbs you just buy another set. Olympic weights are the cheapest and the most durable overall.

I agree with the Olympic suggestion...I think they're just easier to use, because the bars are heavier, which means less loading. Plus, I've been told the bars have a higher weight capacity for when you get to lifting the big weights.

I started out with a standard bar and very soon found it to be inadequate. I have to Oly sets now that I use. One for the Power Rack and the other for off the floor stuff. The standard bar still comes in handy for rollouts, curls, triceps extensions, etc., when the routine calls for it.

Bottom line. Go Olympic.

Olympic has a 2 inch center hole and normally goes on a 7ft bar.

A standard plate has a 1 inch center hole.

You want to go olympic unless you are building dumbell sets or have a specific need for Std.
