Weird Habits
Do any of you have weird habits you do before every time you train. Or maybe before a cretin lift?
My weird habit is I have to take a hot shower BEFORE I lift

I take 5mins before any workout to lay down and think about what numbers im going to use on the main lifts and visualize everything in my head.
Before a big lift, I just think about what im going to do, my form, etc. I dont get 'hyped' up I find that makes things worse. My ipod is all mellow music in the gym. Calming does wonders.
Pre workout sex = lots of PRs.
Post workout sex = disappointment (for her).

I pace the floor aimlessly between sets.
I've noticed at PL meets, many of the lifters have rituals that they do before they lift.

I not only have to have the same type of plates on each side, but the same brand / size collars as well and will walk around all over the gym to match them up.

we're not going to start again with which way the writing on the plates needs to face and if they can be mixed facing or not ... right?

NO CUZ PRE WORKOUT SECH WILL SCREW WITH YOUR TEA LEVELS!
Before any heavy lift from the floor, I have to roll the bar out from my body, roll it back into my shins, then lift. I don't know why, it just helps me set up

HAHAHAH. The plates at my gym are actully the same on both sides, which really sucks, there's just no way to be special and hardcore anymore..

Sorry. In my defense, I don't care how anyone else does it, I am just particular about my own bar.

I'm the same way with music and working out. I've tried the heavy stuff and it just does nothing for me.
No rituals that I know of... though I may have plenty I just havn't noticed. I will sit between sets and practice good posture with my hands on my thighs.

I do this too. Though lately I haven't cared as much with the 5's and 10's.

Yep.. Ive made huge prs when listening to some pretty lame music.
I am the same way with the plates. They have to be the same brand and color or its no good. Also, the inner plates have to face inside and the out plates face outside, always.
If I do use collars which is not that often, they have got to be the same.

A nice thing for me being a collar dork- my Y has 1 pound collars now, which gave me a PR on bench since you don't have to go a full five pounds at a time!
Now those collars you should match up.

Some of my music is heavy, some is calm. Each song has a particular motivating meaning to me though.
2 things I can't lift without though are my ipod and my workout log. I'm OC about writing down my numbers lol...

I'm OC about my log too...otherwise next time I won't remember the numbers and won't make any progress...
Before any deadlift I do a superman stretch (quick arms to the ceiling, full extension) before going down for the bar. Not sure where I picked up that habit, but I think from a deadlift video on t-nation (Cressey maybe?).

I am a pacer as well. I workout mostly at the gym at my work and the only thing I hate is that I think everyone thinks I have an attitude because I am the only one doing serious lifting and I am the only one that paces. And I hate talking to people while lifting. My only saving grace is that I have a total geek-crush on one of the girls I work with who's all of about a buck-o-five soaking wet (mmmm....), anywho, and anytime I see her, we talk so at least people see that I am not an a-hole.
Then again it could all totally be in my head and nobody cares....
