Ross,
I'm sure you won't answer this but how much have you pulled before?
I don't deadlift. I could count the number of times that I've deadlifted on my hands. I can definitely pick 400 pounds up from the floor however. No doubt about that. I don't know how much I could deadlift however in terms of max. I've never trained for it specifically. Maybe someday, we'll see.
Ross
This whole debate is getting more interesting by the minute.
Ross, you say you can Deadlift 400 pounds. That is about 180kg.
You can Deadlift 180kg.
No disrespect but I will pay money to see video footage of this. You can bill my credit card. My offer is $100- American.

And please note, I don't want your money. Go donate it to charity or a local community center gym.
I actually had the same thing happen to me, some troll told me I couldn't deadlift what I claimed for even 1 rep, so I got a vid of me doing 4 and put it up for him. Trolls are fun.

I don't get it. What's the big deal about deadlifting 405? That's not exactly impressive. I'm not saying that as a slight against Ross. I like Ross. I'm just saying that against Dr. Boots. The guy must be some major douche or ridiculously weak to think a guy in Ross's shape would have trouble doing such a weight.

I thought the same thing chiron, but didnt want to say anything. I cant believe an adult, in good shape got called on a 400lbs deadlfit. The second time I ever pulled I got 400, its not some huge feat of strength for most people in shape and that train.

The guy was actually railing on the thought of someone doing a 130kg DL, but then someone threw out 180kgs as not even that big a deal and he became incredulous and threw out the $100 bet.

Ya. The first time I ever did a deadlift I could do 405. I could do more if it wasn't for my lousy grip. It's not a big weight. So if that dude had any clue about how much Ross trains you'd think he'd realize Ross shouldnt have any trouble pulling that kind of weight. The guy is in really good shape. But I guess this is one of the true cases where an idiot deserved to be separated from his money. lol

Depends what you mean by training.
I surely can't pull 300, even noticeably less than that, but I train, in a number of modalities. I could run you through a calesthenic and drill training session that would make you puke! I weigh 155 or so, yet I'd bet $100 can break more shit than you. It'd be fun in any case.
Don't be so cavalier with what constitutes training and strength. This is a training forum, not purely a weightlifting forum.
Friggin' muscle heads.
I love Ross. He's crazy fit. Crazy fit.
EDIT: *note to self: pull 405 by my 50th birthday*
I think the naturally strong guys just don't realize how naturally strong they are. Lifting 400 the first time out means you're strong.
I agree that 400 isn't all that much compared to what real weights are, and most men can get there with a bit of work, but it can be quite a lot of work. It took me a while to get to 405 (and that's where I still am).
I also think that the guy on that other forum was being pretty naive and/or hadn't been paying attention to the lifters on forums or real gyms.
However, if he hangs out in 24 Hour Fitness, then I'll have to cut him some slack. In 24 Hour Fitness, deads using any "big plates" are pretty rare, as you might know.
It took me about 2-2.5 years to get to 405 (at 160-165ish), although I pulled 315 the first time I pulled (so figure I was around 150-160). My training and eating back then wasn't so good, though.

Yeah, good points on the myriad ways that power/strength can be applied. Some have natural ability to apply it in certain ways. I can't DL 400 but I could hit a baseball nearly 500 feet when I weighed 160. Bet Ross can't do that, but it doesn't mean he's not explosive.

Whenever I mention any number on here, these kind of replies get made, I guess by now I expect it.
I couldnt do your circut im sure. But, I could put you through a deadlift session which was mostly isometric work for you
Maybe a 400lbs dead is harder then I thought, Ive always figured at most a few months of hamstring and back work and you would be there.
now, get that 400lbs by your 50th
Its deadlift day tomorrow, so I wont sleep good tonight. Thats why im in this thread LOL.
Me too, man! It is definitely my grip that keeps me from pulling 400 too!!
{thanks Ninja for letting me borrow your blue sarcastic font!}
Thanks. These guys were beginning to sound like t-maggers doing their one-upsmanship. Good on you if you can pull 405 first time out, but it's not as easy as you seem to think it is. Take a look at the Deadlift chart on this forum. The first five big pulls are by professionals in the industry. The average guy who trains, even religiously, would consider a 405 as not being too shabby an accomplishment and I am one of them.
