i know that most people should be squatting more than they bench, but, since i'm new to deadlifts, i was wondering how the weight of your deadlift should compare to your squat and/or bench.
My deadlift is the highest of my three lifts but I am built much better for it than the other two. Normally it should be around your squat and higher than your bench. But if you are new this could take a bit of time. Don't rush it and lose form.

My bench 1RM is probably around 175 (I haven't tested it in a while). Squat is ~185, and deadlift is ~270. I'm pretty ashamed of my squat, at least compared to the deadlift; that's why I'm doing Nitro Squat .

my squat and deads weight is around the same amount. my bench is much less than both.

same with me....my bench is pathetic....but im not a very big kid and all my muscle is in my legs....i bench 85 for 12 reps and 110 for 1 rep....my squats are about 115 for 12 reps, and my deadlift is the biggest at 125-135 for 10-12 reps....it really depends on where the most of your muscle is....

I used to squat more than I could Deadlift as I ignored the importance of a strong back. Guys at MH set me straight about 6 months ago. (I think it might have been DKing) Now I see the light!

Yes, but next year someone will ask this same question and I'll bet you number will explode if you work hard which it sounds like you are.
I used to stuggle to bench 2 35lb Dumbells for Reps...Now I work with 90's and I have trained hard for about 18 Months. SO you can see how fast these numbers will climb.
The biggest thing for me was using HEAVY weight vs. the 10-12 reps stuff. Now I focus on 4-8 clean reps and if I hit 8, the weight was too light...

Hey, Newlife, what was the advice that set you straight on deadlifts??
I was wrong about my squat max. I did 2 x 310 in my 6th set of squats last night (Homegrown Phase 9). Mike Mejia snuck some extra strength in there for me during this Homegrown workout series! So, I'm guessing my 1RM on squats is ~320.
o...yea ive been goin for about a year and a half now....that was basically on and off...for the past two months i have been lifting in my basement every other day and runnign on the other days....i have really seen the numbers climb.....looking at my recording sheets, two months ago i could only squat 90 and now im at 125(i could go higher, but i kinda sorta ran out of weights pretty bad).....thanks for the confidence booster!

My back was my weakest link. I played around with Deadlifting for about a month trying different grips, stances and lift heights. Now I am really fond of them and do them weekly. My back is getting very strong in the process. I also stopped using the Back Extension machine as it was hurting my progress and putting my back in a position that asked for injury. I pulled 365 for 3 reps last night so I will attempt 380 for 1 rep next week. It's not a big deadlift, but I hope to hit 500lb Max someday. Not working your back is like not working your legs.
