In another thread, nyguy enlightened me to this product made by the New York Barbell Co. of Elmira. It's a sumo rack, basically a power cage that doesn't go all the way up, which means that it would fit in my basement. I was wondering what you guys thought of it.

Over the summer, I plan on beginning to lift at home again for the most part. I'm really looking to put on a lot of mass over the summer, so lifting heavy is a no-brainer. However, lifting at home means lifting alone. I'd always like that extra insurance to know that if something goes wrong, I'd have 2 pieces of steel to help bail me out. I could also use them for lockouts, speed pulls, etc.
The only problem i would have would be working out the freight delivery because I'm not home until around 4 each weekday and i'd be the one who would have to drag it off the truck and into the house. But, pretty sure i can work that out.
What do you guys think?

KT, they have a store in LI that sells everything for the same price on the net if you can drive there. Maybe the distributor in NY upstate can also locate another distributor closer to where you live.
They are open on monday.

Would that be the address I found at 310 N. Broadway in Jericho? That's only about a little over an hour way. That might be a possibility sometime in the future. This would probably have to take place in June after I get out of school because of family reasons. But, knowing that there's a quality piece of equipment for such a good price ($210) will force me to remember. Hey, I might even convince Doug M. to get one too and we can go pick um up together in the truck

Yup, that's the address but you want to call in advance and make sure they have it in stock before driving there. I think the weight capacity is 1000 lbs, which is pretty good.

How much? Nevermind, looked it up: $209.00
I like it, but let me get objective:
It doesn't have the double/triple duty of a Powertec. However, if you can get a tower, preferably the Phoenix, than you're still good to go.
Otherwise, there are multi-hook half racks, like a Phys-X for about $350.
Still, it looks good.

Cynic:
I still have a weight bench with leg attachment (never use it) and lat tower. I was looking for a rack for the extra protection since i lift alone when i lift at home, which is no problem with deadlifts, rows, etc. but heavy squats and benches have always been a bit of a mental block for me as i never have anyone there to bail me out if i fail. That's why i was checking out the sumo rack. Especially at $209, which i can afford. Plus, i can add the dip handles it comes out to around $240, which is still affordable for me.

Kevin:
Do you think the front posts will be high enough for dips?
You might want to look at their power rack as well. A little more money, but a 3"x3" frame, and just over 6' tall on all 4 corners.

hmmm. I'm in the process of painting my room downstairs so i'll have to take some measurements to see how tall I actually have. Thanks Cg for pointing that out.
