Im doing HGM and I am in my 2nd week of phase 1, so far, this routine is really kicking my butt, and I had a few questions about the proper ways of doing things. My biggest problem is the lunges. I'm using 20lb dumbells, and my first 2 sets I can do all 15 reps, but by the 3rd set I'm whipped, so what I have been doing is 5 reps, than rest about 15-20 seconds, and repeat untill i get the full 15. so my question is, is there anything wrong with doing it this way or should I just go untill I cant do anymore, or should I drop some weight on the last set?
second question is breathing...on quite a few of the excersises I realized I was holding my breath, and i read somewhere to exhale when your lifting and inhale when returning. I don't know if that is right but thats what I have been doing and I tend to get light headed, so any idea on what I'm doing wrong?? And last question (for today anyway) can I drink water while lifting?
Thanks for any advice you can give.
Glen

I don't know what others think, but if you're petering out in your last set, you might considering lunging for 3 full sets with 17s or 15s rather than 20s. Or, your way works too, provided you're working up to the full 15 (i.e. the number of subsets you need to do should go down)

Hey, another HGM Phase 1 guy....me too!

It's a kick ass routine, isn't it. I will let some of the more qualified guys address the first question. As to proper brerathing, always exhale as the weight is lifted/pressed and inhale as the weight is lowered/returned. And as for the water, drink-drink-drink! No harm in doing so and your body will be sooo appreciative of it.

Good luck with HGM. I find that I am really enjoying the challenge.
