Mahler's Monday Morning Motivator (NOT)
To faithful readers:
I was working on post number 10,000 for Men's Health on Sunday night as well as my motivator and things started to go wrong. When I got to work Monday morning, I was unable to get to the web and it went downhill from there. I had to have a hard drive replaced and all of my software reloaded. I lost some things, including a few fleshed out future motivators. It has taken a few days to get things in a usable format although I now face the task of reconfiguring all my software and programming. I had to do the 10k post from memory and it was not the post I had hoped for, but the MH guys are being very receptive.
Like other difficulties we face, it's time to pick up the pieces and move forward.

So you total over 17K post between the 2 forums. That's far in excess of JP and LD, the two leaders here. You're the classic forumite I've heard about in guru blogs. :p
Congrats on 10K. It was well said.

I think it was a fantastic post John. Even if it didn't meet your expectations, it exceeded many others.

Great post,John.
I remeber a picture floating around of you and Alwyn from the Summit (the one where he's giving you the pretend punch). I bet it was great to finally the man whose program's helped you get where you are today (and give you an ass whooping along the way )

Yes, just some guy that doesn't know anything, ignores all the advice and gets crappy results.

Thank you. My original concept was much more grand, but I can try to piece that together for another day.

It was Alwyn's programs that gave me an ass whupping. I would be far better off if he had just physically beat the crap out of me.

There are many people who serve as a valuable example to others, but darned few like yourself, who can do it while also maintaining a sense of humility and of humor.
Brilliant post. Thanks for living a life that made it possible to write it. Looking forward to the second Myriad!

The best part was the veral whoopin Alwyn gave him:
"I'm noot naming names, but when soomebody shortens tha rest peeriods that I wroote, they're just fooking up the progressions later. Cough... John."

That was funny, because Alwyn and I discussed that by e-mail and he told me that I could shorten the rest periods based on my performance. He just didn't want that to be a common practice because everybody would do it and then complain that they were not making progress.
Of course, shortly after that he had me doing 10 sets of deads for 3 reps at 15 second rest periods. AC = The Punisher.

Ah, I see. I still get his point, though. If you shorten the rest periods too much early in the program, later on you just can't make then any shorter. Eventually you'll have to build a time machine and use negative rest periods.
That would be cool. But if I had a time machine I probably wouldn't use it to optimize my workouts.
