I love running and won't stop, but I can certainly provide my personal anecdote about how it is inhibiting a "bulking phase."

I increased my calorie intake by ~500-700 per day over a point where I was maintaining my weight (now at 3400-3600 cal/day). I have also been following the P+C/P+F concept for the most part, which I was not doing prior to this intended bulk. I continued my same exercise regimens, following the MH Homegrown Muscle program (now in Phase 9 - strength building phase) and running 20-25 miles per week on 3 or 4 days. I expected to gain ~1 LB. per week, but here is my graph of progress over 5 weeks. According to the trendline, I have gained a whopping 1.5 LBS. in five weeks! On the other hand, I do seem to be responding to the dietary changes with improved strength in most exercises.

I haven't been doing intervals with my runs for some time, although I do intend to do more of those as I train for a local 10K in November. OTOH, my local terrain is very hilly, which provides some interval-like effect... at least it sure seems like it.

I can also attest that my bodyfat levels are far lower at this point in my life (almost age 38), when I have been combining weight training and running, versus times during my 20's when I only did running for exercise and was as much as 20 LBS. lighter.

Symbolic,

I am addicted to jogging. I started about 8 years back. Then, I was not much concerned about losing body fat or weight. I was 126 pounds then, at 5'5''. I jogged for very simple reason- it made my entire day very energetic.

2 years back I had my first kid. I put on 14 kgs during pregnancy. I resumed jogging after one month of my son's birth. I looked thin but could not manage to shed the last 4-5 pounds. I was stuck at 130- 131 pounds for 1-1/2 years inspite of jogging regularly and eating 5-6 small healthy meals a day.

Some 4 months back, I was adviced by JP at the worldfitness forum to start on HIIT along with weight training. I stopped jogging and started 3 days of weight training along with 2 days of HIIT. Since then I have lost 6 pounds of body fat. Today I am at 126 pounds again with better muscle definition than what I had when I first started jogging.

This was my personal experience. Hope this will shed some light on the kind of information you are looking for.

Anaerobic activity will burn more calories in a shorter amount of time, and on top of this will continue to burn calories for a vast amount of time after the actual activity has stopped. This question has been beaten to death. If your goal is to look good, be stong, be fast, train for track, loose bfp points, ect ect ect anaerobic activity is unmatched. How can you say that a heavy set of 10 rep squats doesn't get your heart pumping anyways? It may not be AS good as distance, steadily paced running, but it has to be pretty close!

I'm assuming that you didn't actually intend to reply to my post, because I wasn't offering any argument with what you posted.
