I am thinking about doing another Fitness Summit in April of 2008 (may need to have my head checked for that one), and want to poll you guys on a couple things.
First, I was thinking about doing it in Lake Tahoe this year. Rooms there for three nights would total about $410 (give or take $50 depending on which facility I choose. Also, these rates are steeply discounted from what you would get on your own). Airfare is going to be roughly $300 (rough estimate... It will be much cheaper if you are coming from the West coast). Estimate about $50 per day for food (overestimating a lot). Registration will be between $200-$250 (depends on event expenses).
Obviously it will be excellent speakers as usual, although I have no one confirmed so far. Your feedback on this poll will help me determine whether or not to pursue this particular plan.
Some reasons Tahoe would be cool:
If we do it before April 15th skiing will still be open
Great mountain biking
Golf courses everywhere
Incredible hiking trails
Casinos/shows
Fun activities for spouse/SO while you are doing the event
Even in Tahoe, will it attract enough people to break even? It seems like a really expensive route to go. JP, you have resources available in Little Rock, as well as connections with other local business people, that won't be an option in another location.
My vote's for Little Rock. And I'll have to admit that a big part of that is it's close enough for me to drive. I understand that not everyone is that lucky.
But I also have to mention that I like being able to see and use your gym, JP, and it's a great part of the experience to meet at JPF the gym as opposed to JPF the website. You lose that connection if we're set up in some unfamiliar location.

JP, make it easy on yourself. If turning over all the logistics to a hotel event planner is easier for you, then do it. My only problem with last years Summit was the hotel location. I'd have rented a car if I known it was such a problem to get around. I could stay in a crack house if it means being able to walk to the event and nightlife.

I'm going to go with Little Rock, but with a different idea:
Don't make this a big event. I'm not talking about number of attendees, but the size of the seminar. One speaker. One day. But an event that lasts from Thursday to Sunday.
I'm there for the socializing. Fitness is second.

I get the vibe that JP wants to get out of town for a few days too. I'm with Nick on the number of speakers idea. Fewer speakers = lower break even point = less stress for JP.

Vegas seems like it would be cheap. It always seems like people's biggest expense is the airfare &/or hotel. Both those things are cheap in Las Vegas. My $.02

I was planning for Little Rock as I could possibly drive there (road trip, anyone?). Plus, I want to see firsthand all the places I've heard about. Tahoe would be out of my range. I'm already going to Vegas in October 2008, so no real desire for that. Of course, there's always Charlotte to host the summit

You could always come over to my neck of the woods :p
If there is a decent/cheap return flight out of houston/New York then Tahoe sounds appealing. I could see vegas getting messy, drink and gambling..... I may not make it home

I vote for LR!
I would love to know dates, too, because I am planning on staying longer!
Me too. I think I need at least a week to 10 days in the states (in general not just the summit) to make it economically viable.
I know it's very early doors but a couple of dates would be very handy.

Take your point Nick. Although, I enjoyed having many speakers (kept it fresh and I learnt alot). As long as people get in early Thursday and leave mid - late Sunday (even Monday) there's loads of time for socialising.

Little Rock's fine by me. And I agree with Nick on the scope.

Little Rock. If JP can nail down the date early enough, maybe we can get the hotel right across the street. That made it very convenient in past years and we literally walked to everything.

I just want a room and cold beer. The best times of the summit are the evenings where everyone is shooting the shit. (and laughing our heads off)

LR is my first choice, but vegas would be a short drive and tahoe only slightly longer. I'm game for any, really.
I'm with Nick. Get one good presenter for a day and then con some of the up-and-coming-superstar attendees into doing some hands one stuff on the other day.
well, in an effort to get the train back on the track ,
based on my experience having spent a lot of time in Tahoe, there are a few considerations (in no particular order):
The airport is actually in Reno (only those of you who have private jets can fly into Tahoe). From Reno you have to take a bus up to Tahoe and if your flight is late you may have to stay in reno for a night.
Not sure where in tahoe you would have it; Stateline is probably most convenient and has the most hotels, but they are also the most expensive.
Altitude definately affects some people for the first few days (+7,000 feet) and the headace and lethargy aren't much fun.
Is Los Angeles out of the question? Close to Alwyn (& Chad ?) and lots of reasonable flights and hotels.
Would be cheaper to go to a bigger city as far as flights and stuff goes. I hope I can come this year, last year it was right in the middle of my finals.
One advantage to Lake Tahoe..... we could party with these clowns.
While I wouln't mind seeing a city that I haven't been to, I like the feel of Little Rock for the Summit. Being an east-coaster, airfare is a little better to LR and hotel prices are real reasonable..... leaves more money for cocktails, beers and bullshitting.

Lieutenant Jim Dangle: Hey Terry, Sheriff's Department!
Terry: Hey Guys!
Lieutenant Jim Dangle: Hey.
Terry: Whats goin' down?
Lieutenant Jim Dangle: Well, I'll tell ya' whats goin' down Terry, you know that they've installed a camera right here at this red light here.
Terry: Oh my god!
Lieutenant Jim Dangle: Yeah, and it takes a picture whenever someone runs a red light.
Terry: Oh wow, that's awesome, it's like the future is here.
Lieutenant Jim Dangle: It is awesome.
Deputy Travis Junior: So you know why we're here?
Terry: Why, was there a fire?
Lieutenant Jim Dangle: You've been chargin' three bucks, you run up when the car is at a red light, and you give a HJ during the red light.
Terry: Oh my god, that sounds, that's not something that I would ever do.
Deputy Travis Junior: Except we've got about...
Lieutenant Jim Dangle: We got about 38 photos of you and that's only last night.
Terry: Well, I can see how you would think that, but I sell... oranges.
Deputy Travis Junior: You sell oranges?
Lieutenant Jim Dangle: You sell oranges?
Terry: Mmhm!
Lieutenant Jim Dangle: I'll take some.
Deputy Travis Junior: Yeah, I'd like some too.
Terry: I've sold out, I've sold out of my oranges... I run out and people are like beep beep, I go okay, and say you're driving and I just put it in their lap.
Lieutenant Jim Dangle: Well...
Deputy Junior: I don't know about that.
Lieutenant Jim Dangle: Come on Terry.
Terry: I can't, I have to call my girlfriend... listen I don't even know what you're talking about.
Begins tugging Terry away on his roller skates
Deputy Travis Junior: We're talking about you giving hand jobs at three bucks a pop at this red light up here that's what we're talking about.
Terry: Okay okay, a hand job is still a job, okay?
Lieutenant Jim Dangle: Come on easy does it, Xanadu it right into the car.
Terry: You Xana-Don't it!
Lieutenant Jim Dangle: Did he just say "Xana-Don't it?"
